Great idea I hadn't thought of that my socks are dark but some sort of tag at the top would be easily seen

I have gun socks since the 1970's. The problem I have is most all my socks have holes, I need a much better quality gun sock.

I've used them on and off over the years. At the moment I have them but they're not in use. My concern was wiping a light coat of oil on the rifle, putting the sock on it, and the oil transferring onto the sock. Then in time and from repeated use the sock transferring the oil onto the rifle stock itself. Is that a valid concern, or am I over thinking this? Using silicone impregnated socks make sense, but I like storing the rifles with a light coat of oil on them. Thanks!

Yes. Of course, I'd prefer having additional space. The socks that I use in the safe are thick and provide substantial protection. I use thin socks only for arms that are outside the safe and not in contact with other arms (e.g., in closets and other useful locations); they provide silicon and dust protection but not protection against bumps and bruises.

I just placed an order with them. I have a few long barreled rifles that I'll use them for. This thread inspired me to start using gun socks again, and I needed a few longer gun socks.Anyone try these?

After 5-10 years some of mine have holes in them from taking them out of a sock and puting it back.

You take another piece of tape and fasten the cartridge it shoots to the sock as well. If you have the end flap from the original box, you could use that if you have more than one rifle/scope in a particular chambering....
Thanks, but my comment was a joke.
How light is the light coat of oil? the old adage "less is more" works well here. Personally, I use a microfiber cloth very sparsely sprayed with Balistol which is protective for wood and synthetic surfaces, and wipe the guns before placing them in a sock (or some of them straight in the safe, without a sock). I shouldn't see oil on my fingers when handling them.
