Good News for RUM/EDGE Shooters

How does Norma brass compare to Lapua for those of us who push things a bit?

Hi Roy,

My experience has been that the primer pockets loosen after a couple firings. I think it is not as high in quality as Lapua brass. I have 12 firings on some Lapua 260 brass and they haven't loosened up a bit. Just my two cents.

That figures.

I recall that someone said Norma mades brass for Nosler possibly Hornady. I've tried the Nosler and they are as soft or softer than Remmy.

I got 2 shots out of the H or N ??? stuff and 6 or 7 out of the Remmy.

I can confirm that Norma is soft in their 300WSM. On the low end and still get ejector marks. Good for a Sunday drive but she'll throw a rod on Friday night.:D

I have used Lapua and Norma brass side by side in a 6.5-284. The Norma was definitely not as pressure tolerant as the Lapua.

However, I use it in cartridges for which Lapua brass isn't available or for applications where I don't feel Lapua is the best choice. I use Nosler Custom in my .264 Win Mag with very good results. I use Norma in my 375 H&H. It works well and seems to boost available case capacity somewhat. I will soon be using it for 7x57 and 338-06AI.

Personally, I will take Norma over any domestic manufacturer any day of the week. It used to be that my go to brass was Winchester. It has been hard to obtain in recent years and it seems more and more people are saying their quality control has gone downhill.

As for those who have been aware of Norma RUM brass, I guess you can just call me late to the party. The only options I had been aware of in RUM brass were Remington and some custom stuff from Bertram. It seemed like good news to me that options were expanding. Maybe that makes me Captain Obvious...:D

Has anyone tryed necking down the Bertram Edge brass to 30cal for the 300RUM ?I have also found that the Nosler 300RUM brass is a bit soft. I ended trading it streight across for Rem. The Rem does need full preping before you can load it ( which I don't mind doing ) but it really is IMHO a better option for the 300RUM. I to have heard that Norma made the stuff for Nosler.

Just FYI you can get Federal brass for the 300 RUM. I have used it extensively and I think it is great. No need to spend the money on the Bertram in my opinion. Good luck.
