Finally Broke into the 700 Yard Club

Went out hunting this afternoon and was able to take a shot at a whitetail right before dark standing right by my 700 yard steel gong frame. Up until today I had only shot at steel at 700yrds. It was my first attempt on live game at this distance. I'm proud of my rem 700 7mm rem mag. Also, love the 160 gr accubonds. The Kenton turret that I put on my Leupold VX3 4.5X14X40 Works great! As accurate as you can hold it. Here's the video. Enjoy....

I used the 160's in several 7 mags. Good bullet weight for this caliber.

Once i'm 'up and running' again, i want to get back into reloading for my 7mm RM (as well as re-barrel, etc) and i'm looking to the 160gr Accubond for my hunting bullet (particularly for elk).

What twist do you have in your rifle? Any other tech info on your rifle/load work-up would be great info!

I will post some pictures as soon as I get the chance. It actually started off as a Rem 700 ADL in 7mm Rem Mag. But a local gun smith kind of ruined my factory barrel somehow. He took it a part and my buddy trued everything. Bolt face, lugs, etc. we took it back and the guy wouldn't put it back together so I sent it out of town. Was told that the threads wouldn't match up to the reliever and the barrel was ruined. So they sold me a brand new factory stock Stainless barrel. I had a break installed and I installed a Timney trigger. It's shoots great, mostly because of my buddies work on trueing all the action.

Ive never checked the twist on my barrel, its whatever they come on stock rem 700 7mm Mags. This load was actually developed by the same friend who accuired my rifle. That's what he used to shoot out of his before he switched to the 180gr Berger. I tried them out and my gun loves them so that's all I load for it. It's def a hot load, but I've yet to experience any negatives.

Yes I think it's perfect for the gun. I really like the Accubond bullet.

7 Rem, I am running 64.3 gr of H4831 SC with the 180 gr. Berger. No signs of pressure in my gun, but it is a few grains over what my Hodgden Annual Manual suggests.
Mine is a custom 13.5 lb long range rifle that has taken marmots at over 1100 yards.

That's awesome! I'd love to get to those distances one day! My buddy went to the 180gr Berger in his 7mm but really hasn't shot it in a few years. He's been shooting the 300 Rum 300 Win Mag and 300 wsm more than the 7mm. I actually hadn't shot mine either because I used my 270wsm last year and really love that one too. But my 7mm is the most accurate I own. I tried looking up the load in the Nosler manual and didn't even find it, my buddy got it from somewhere though. Wherever he got it from...I know it works lol

I have used H4831 in all of my 7 mags. I have read a lot of positive results with H1000 as well.
The 'smith that built my LR rifle developed that load. It works, so I use it.
My light weight long range rifle is a 270 WSM. I really like that round, especially in a gun that weighs about 8 lbs scoped. Last week this rifle was shooting 1/2 MOA at 842 yards. I shoot H4831 out of it too. Getting 3180 fps with 140 gr. Berger VLD's.
Wait until you get hold of a really accurate looong range rifle. I've had a few, but I am still amazed by the ability of this sort of rifle to reach out to these distances with that level of precision.
It IS awesome!

Edited to add this; Now that you are shooting to 700, you will quickly see the importance of really good scope, rangefinder, and ballistic software. You also need really accurate data to input to your software.
Do you have an anemometer yet? Elevation is easy, it's the wind that is hard. Is your reticle plumb to the center of bore, and do you have a level on your rifle to keep everything plumb? How about some means of measuring incline?
You are entering another level of precision shooting, and will need the right tools to be successful. I got tired of missing varmints by inches, and the right tools, along with learning how to use them, has increased my kill percentage dramatically.
My limit on the 7 mag is 800 yards. Any closer than that and it's not sporting.
