The MTH . Yes petals do break off.

Do you know how much of the slug is left after the petals break off? My thinking, which could be overthought, may not make sense...but I have 2 stocks with magnum BDL, one has 2.955" and one has an extended 3.100". Better would be how the majority build the short action magnums in a long action, giving the needed room. But both of mine, for better or worse, will be short actions.

But I can swap the stocks out for either, depending on what I prefer at the end of the day.

Since I have 3+1 in each BDL, I was thinking to load that round in the chamber at .020" off the lands, and shoot for cold bore. Then follow up with 3 rounds of Maximus, if needed. I don't know what I would use for the chamber round yet. That is yet another possibility, in that McGuire makes a 168 grain copper rose in a Standard and Long profile. Even considering that I will be shooting for groups, it's not as if I need that long seated chambered round, it's probably ok and I'm just overthinking it... At the end of the day, I live with my choices...so I'd like to do it how I feel best about going at it.

For OAL typically a person decides what bullet or bullets they want to use and you design a reamer around it or them.

I could use some good luck, so thanks! I'm currently wrestling to get an answer from PTG on where my action is. My sales person hasn't been able to answer, unless I cc Pete and Dave Kiff, and even then he tells me his dog ate his homework.

They can't even give me a finite quote for a creating a chamber reamer, sizer reamer, set of dies, and labor. But without labor it was up to about $900, and I don't think that included the CAD work to get the drawings to send off to manufacturing. I think if I was to create a Weatherby Short Magnum (WSM with a Weatherby shoulder), I would go to either JGS or Manson. It just seems to me that PTG is too busy to take on little guys like me. They shouldn't do it if they're so busy that they don't have time to even quote correctly. I really only ask for an honest quote, seems a gunsmith should be able to differentiate between 2 days and 2 weeks. Is that asking too much?

BTW, some of that data is on the Cutting Edge website, but you need to ask for each load you want them to send you. I think they do it out of Quick Loads. Then you can see the powders for the bullets, etc...

Those and many other similar issues is why I won't do business with PTG. Too many other good companies that actually seem to want my business to deal with that nonsense.

Yeah, I knew going into this that there was a chance it would get drawn out, I have dealt with them before, and this is worse. As I said, in the future I will most likely go with JGS or Manson, both of them seem to provide pretty good service at this point.

The problem is I need to get this action before I cut off my business with PTG. I have to imagine that Dave Kiff is doing well, better than me, as an example. My money means a lot more to me than it does PTG, I'm afraid.

I must say, Cutting Edge provided XLNT service.

The packing in the box was XLNT, bubble wrap on the bottom, each box wrapped in bubble wrap, and the bullets packed in cases separately.

These bullets feel really nice, the finish is like satin. I've never turned copper alloys, but a lot of bronze and brass. These don't look at sexy as the Hammer HBCs, but they feel really nice and you can tell they're turned on a CNC. I love bullets, I don't know why. These were an amazing deal at 30% off. If these work well, I'll be buying more on the BOGO sale. Really nice people to deal with, and the people here using them seem like nice folks. XLNT out of box experience. Looking forward to seating these in my Peterson brass. My guess is meat in the freezer.
