Looking for a new .204 Ruger rifle, it's got to be a tack driver but also has to handle well in the field- Wondering how the Phoenix line from COOPER handles- their single shot bolt gun with the synthetic stock seems to have a light weight, but I don't have one nearby to go and handle.
I've had a Ruger American Predator in .223, the light stock and bull barrel up front made it handle like a Mack Truck when shot offhand. From a rested position it felt fine (yes that's what it was designed for). I'd like a gun I can shoot OFFHAND as well as in a modified field rest. I like the idea of using smaller caliber rifle to shoot from all positions as a way to keep my skills sharp for other types of hunting. Really prefer the lighter sporter weight barrels configurations- but used Phoenix rifles show up under 2k sometimes.
Coyotes 100-400 intended use while in field.
Thoughts appreciated.
