I've ran a 3 shot ladder test on my 6.5 prc using hornady 143gr eldx with Hodgman US869 an Federal 210 primers. My question is first 2 shot are close together but the 3rd shot is about an inch out from the others. Im just woundering Why? An what causes this? An how can i fix it? Thanks for your help in advance..

I have a rifle like that. Two very close... touching many times and one out 1/2"-3/4". All horizontal. Tried four bullets, three powders and seating from .005-.070. Nothing worked, so gave up for the time. A full custom nonetheless.

Years ago there was a magazine article on just that. They had slow motion photos of the gases and how they could affect the bullet. Don't remember much about it.

Ah...perhaps human error gave one a ride...?

Did you try the same group another time or two?

Every single time had a bullet jump. But the 65.5 grains of powder an the 68. Grs but the 68 grain load was a very hot barrle??

Do you have speed data?
Velocity changes are vertical and seating depth is left to right generally. There is about a thousand other things if the gun needs accurizing.
But, I would try 1 powder load and look for velocity swings. Then doing a seating depth test with same weight of powder. Do a primer swap next. Each is it's own test.
It's tough to tell if more than one thing in your reloading is happening like different charge weights, primers etc.

Before you pull your hair out BED the thing. Just a good recoil lug/action screw area bed job. And make sure the barrel isn't touching in the channel. Seriously
