I am going to start developing a load for the 178 grn eldx for my x-bolt 30-06. For 150 grn sst bullets it is extremely accurate with varget. what would be a good powder to try with the 178 grn eldx. My rifle has a 22 inch barrel with a 1 in 10 twist. Any good ideas appreciated.

Unobtanium H4350 if you happen to have a bunch laying around. Depending on how far you're loading them out there you may be able to stuff enough H4831sc in there to work pretty well. And as others have said give varget a try.
Edit to add IMR4451 may be worth a try.

^ Agree the 178gr needs a slower powder. Have had good luck with H4831SC with 168gr. Perhaps even a slower would be quite accurate with the 178. A couple years ago I wouldn't have had this opinion, but that changed when I followed a good number of loaders and tried Retumbo in 25-06 with the 115Berger.

H4350 is the hands down winner, but I've had very accurate results with H4831SC it just couldn't get within 50 fps of H4350 with the same accuracy in my rifle. I've been working with IMR4451 and it is showing great results with some 155 gr loads. I have a single digit ES & SD load for my 270 Win/140 Accubonds with IMR4451 and has taken H4831's place in that rifle.

I have recently tried H4831SC in my 06 with 168 gr SMK and TTSX and was only getting in the low 2700's with 61.7 grains of the stuff. IMR 4064 has always been a great powder in my 30-06's. I just chrono'd some loads with the 2 aforementioned bullets and am getting 2830 FPS with the SMK and 2800 with the TTSX. Both loads are MOA or better, and that is right on point with Barnes load data for the TTSX, both in velocity and 4064 being the most accurate powder. IMR 4064 has also been a little hard to find lately, but if you can find some, I'd try it.

rl22 will probably produce the highest speeds with 180'ish grain pills in a 30-06, but it's hard to beat 4350... Do not limit yourself to h4350; I is as good other than it isn't temp. stable... I don't care about that myself, even living in N.D. as I test my loads in all temp's before I load any quantity of the load for the rifle...

I have always had best results with 150 to 168 gr bullets with IMR 4064. When moving up to 180 and heaver one of the 4350s mainly IMR 4350 has worked great. I guess 4350 would work great with 178s.
