Bergers for 308 win

I have had great luck with the 185VLD in my 308 AR. I'm still working on finding "the" load for it. Like many others I have best luck with 168 weight bullets. My barrel is 1:11.25 twist though.

I shot this a few weeks back Hornady 168bthp, 42.6gr IMR4064:

For whatever reason, 42.6gr was the sweet spot for it. I'm getting close to these same results with the 185gr, 41.0gr IMR4064:

I'm still getting a flyer with them, I'm loading ladders now in .2gr increments and I'm going to try some IMR4895 too. I can get consistent 3/4-1MOA groups with FGMM 185gr Juggernauts. It's my go to factory load. I would be loading up 185 Juggs if I could find them.

I have best luck with 168's and 185's. Granted I'm running a gas gun with a slower twist and 18" barrel. With your rig, I would definitely be looking into the heavier offerings. Berger 185's are my go to in this particular gun.

Hello rick I really like the amax as well they have shot very well in this rifle best group at 100 yards has been 7/16 of inch and worst was 1/2 inch.that was with 44.5 grains of varget best I've got with 4064 at 44 grains was 9/16 inch havnt tryed any other powders with it yet
Those are the best two powders in my opinion.

Hello all i will be trying berger bullets this coming season in one of my 308 win and was wondering the people that use berger bullets for hunting in 308 win or 30-06 what grain weight have you had the best of luck with on white tail from close to long range.ive heard use heavy for caliber when using berger and not sure if u should go with 168s or 170 weights or 180 weight bullets and would like to hear some feed back please thanks
When I was shooting a .308, I had outstanding results from the 185gr Berger Classic Hunters pushed by 44gr Varget. That load produced 2640fps from my 24" Criterion barrel and routinely put 5 rounds into the .4s or less. I killed 2 pigs with one shot at 465 yards with that load. It was impressive.

No two rifles will shoot the same load resulting in the same accuracy. Since you are hunting whitetail the 168 Bergers will easily get the job done and accurately. Several of the powders mentioned are great, only factor would be finding them. My inlaw's Remington 700 was very quick to find accuracy with the Bergers and easy on the recoil. Good luck
