hay friends,my son is 16 and has built a ar15.mostly with ebay parts.he don't want no money help from dad,so he built gun on a spikes lower and a Anderson upper, ebay barrel and it shoots like crap.its shooting 4 inch group at 75 yards, with match grade ammo, can anyone suggest a good barrel that maybe he can afford or give some sug. on how to get gun to shoot better? thanks

here is the method step by step to building an accurate AR. lots of quality barrels out there. Hope you find something that fits the budget

Is it possible that the trigger pull is so heavy that it is effecting accuracy? Some of the GI triggers are upwards of 8-10# pull which can challenge even experienced shooters to keep tight groups.

If the barrel ends up being the issue, I have been looking into Faxon barrels for an affordable build. I have ran Daniel Defense historically but the Faxon barrels are roughly half the cost and are getting good reviews online. I will likely try one out in the near future.

Buy cheap 55 gr fmj and shoot it on something like a Caldwell lead sled on a solid bench. Where it is a permanent fixture. at just 75 yards.

New barrels have a break in. maybe the barrel nut or free floating hand guard isn't tight or the stock buffer tube? watch a video about how to decrease the trigger pull. on and on before a barrel is so bad.

I build them.......... lots of them

Try this trigger mod trick just to see if the trigger is the issue. I would not leave this mod in a gun that is not for bench shooting but would help tell if a $ trigger is in order.

For a barrel the DPMS stainless 223 rem chambered are cheap and shoot very well but there are many others that shoot very well and are cheap stainless non-chrome lined 223 rem or 223 Wylde chambered barrels will be the best avoid 5.56 NATO chamber

JSE Surplus Barrels 5.56, .223, .223 Wylde
