Arizona Elk Draw

Any of the hunts past October there's always a chance of weather. For what ever reason my dad seems to get lucky and the weather is good. Me on the other hand not so much . I had the muzzleloader hunt a few 3 or 4 years back and it was sunny when I parked my trailer in our usual spot and a few days later when my dad made the trip out it was blowing snow and people were on there way out . 4 days of no water in the trailer and 17 degrees and snow and ice . Weather can definitely bite you in the but.

That's a good tag but not considered a "rifle trophy tag". Trophy Rifle tags are during the rut in late September. Be prepared for the cold during that hunt as it can be very wintery 🥶 type conditions. That unit has multiple different type of terrain from vast juniper areas with some glassing available as well as very mountainous rugged pine forested areas. I would focus my efforts on 3C back in off the 260 HWY and back in close to the Reservation. You should be able to locate some good glassing spots in there. There are large burn areas back in there that the Elk frequent for feeding and then they work back into their bedding areas.
Thank you for the info!!! I figured it would be pretty freaking cold that time of year. I also figured it'd be tough hunting, terrain wise.

And you are 100% right, since it's not the rut hunt, agree not a trophy hunt rather the thought for me was the ability to search for a truly trophy class bull (anything is bigger than where I live, I live in MD and we have e no Elk). I've been told it will be hard hunting and finding a good bull will take a lot of work that time of year. I'll spend all 7 days trying to do just that!

Fingers crossed!

Appreciate you taking some time to share your thoughts and experiences.
