Accubond LR bullets

Years ago I was loading them in my custom 280ai. I was told they were not a good bullet. Multiple animals were shot and the bullet just blew up when it hit the animal. I have had the hornady sx bullets do that. So I just never continued with them.

You experienced bullet blow up? If you have I understand why you have not continued to use them. Hornady SX is designed to blow up and have huge expansion. People love Berger and think they are the best hunting bullet made and they blow up like crazy. If I saw them blow up (fail) then I would not use them otherwise stuff them use them and make your decision off from known results you could witness.

Not the ablr's just the hornady sx bullets for me. The guy that built my rifle also guides. He had a few clients that shot them (ablr's) at Muley's and elk. He said they would hit them and just a big cloud of dust. The bullets just blew up and did not penetrate. As far as distances I don't know that. I just knew I didn't want to chance it. I know take it for what it's worth but, I don't have great luck at finding many elk and when I do I wanted a bullet to work. So I went with the 168 bergers.

My son's Browning 7 mag loves the 168 ABLR in the Winchester Expedition factory ammo. Antelope, Mule Deer and elk have been shot from 156 yds to 585 yds. Excellent performance, perfect mushroom recovered from one of the elk. Really happy with the bullet so far. I've heard negative reviews about it being too soft and splashy but I've not experienced that at all in 7 animals. The negative is getting them to shoot in rifles consistently. I know they like jump and don't like being pushed super hard. Stay under 3000 fps and don't chase the lands. Been a very good bullet for us.

All bullets can fail...given different shot angles....I've shot critters from neck to hind quarters..and hind quarters to neck..
broadside usually get full in and out penetraion.....just don't hit heavy bones..and if you 'think you did'..shoot the critter again......
I don't practice so much that I believe every single shot is the kill shot...I've seen weird things happen with bullets once they hit the critters...
