Accubond discrepencies?

Hey guys/gals,
Have just been loading for my 338WM and 338Edge, my query is this:
Has any one else encountered different length bullets and different ogive lengths with the same bullet weights in Nosler Accubonds with differing lots?
I just encountered this for the first time in 338 225gr Accubonds, I think the different ogive shape/length is going to make a difference to my POI.
I have experienced this with 308 180gr Nosler BT's in the past, but not Accubonds.
Will this change my POI enough to worry about?

I found that the design had changed when I went to replenish with 308 200 gr accubonds. The interval was several years. I discovered this when I loaded the new bullets and shot them. The load that shot so changed radically.

I called Nosler and they said they had changed the design since I last purchased them. I had to work up a new load and with some tweaking the rifle shot accurately again.

The first time I encountered Nosler changing the design was with some 85 gr partitions. I didn't consider a change in the bullet and went nuts trying to figure out what was wrong with the rifle or scope.

Thinking back of other bullet makers, Barnes did this to me a few times too. Early Xs were changed several times in their early life.

For what it is worth Sierra NEVER changes their design. If they change anything the bullet gets a new product number.


I hope you resolve your problem and you get your rifle to shoot them accurately.

You have hit the nail on the head with both Nosler and Barnes - it is for this very same reason that I quit using them. Here today, gone tomorrow with no advance notice. Although I was upset at the time when it happened, I finally quit using them and have never regretted switching.

Out of the same box of 200 gr Accubonds

That's about .017" difference in distance from bullet base to point on ogive where comparator hits

Have found other variances in other weights of Accubonds but not as much. For that reason I sort all AB's for bearing length

Haven't checked the 160's for length or weight variance yet, but have about 5 out of two boxes, that have the white tips missing.....oh, they were in the box!. In the field, had two more break off....anyone else with this issue? I have gone back to Sierras...just as accurate, performance quite acceptable, and 1/2 the price!!
