Hey guys, just passing through, took a long read down through our long memory lane, still see some of the vet's, and new comers, and the beautiful rifles that some of you all have.
Man, this site us STILL awesome. And brother Bean is still here too!
I must painfully admit that I no longer shoot this awesome bullet, but in my lifetime, there was nothing that ever excited me as much as this gem did.
And in the process, joined this forum long after I had started shooting it, and met, and shared info, with a bunch of guys, that shared info, and stories too. And friendships thst still endure.
Long live the 7STW!
BADASS, none better#!
Happy New year, y'all!

Sound like you had yourself a little fun my friend!!! Some big pigs up there huh???
You need to take my green giant out there and let me know how she shoots. Been 4 years since she got to eat!!! I'm sure she'll shoot that same
Load with out problems. One thing I do remember, she shoots everything well. Not a picky eater. Kinda
Like her daddy!!! Hahahhssh
Hey there bud, its been awhile, still hunting, and shooting, killed a few deer this year. Just read back through some of numerous posts though the years. Wow. Now we are 350 pages.
I'm still kicking, just don't shoot the big guns anymore. It pains me, cause the STW was my passion for alot of GREAT years.
And all the people here that enjoy it too!
Happy New YEAR!

Savage 7mm STW.jpg
Newbee here with the 7STW but a member of the long range forum for a few years. I built this rifle last month. MDT Chassis with carbon fibre wrap. Receiver is a vintage 1st generation Savage 110. Trigger is a Rifle Basix SAV 2 with pull set at 1.5 pounds. Barrel is a stainless steel 27" Shilen and topped with a Leupold 6.5-20 VXIII. Barrel and scope wrapped in a USA Patriot wrap. Shoots consistent 1/2 inch 5 shot groups at 200 Yards locked down on a bench. Total weight of the setup is 12.3 pounds.

Hello, I'm glad I just now found this forum! But long time STW user.
The rifles and our long range hunting equipment all needs some upgrading. We are getting 3 rifles re-barreled with 30" Hart, 1 in 9" each and new McMillan Game Hunter stocks. And definatley sicking with the 7mm STW.
Looks like I have 350 pages to read!
Because I am out of my long time stock pile of ammunition and no longer interested in loading...
What is the best source for custom loaded ammunition for the STW? Particularly for 150 grain bullets. I was speaking with Hendershot and it seemed like he really would be able to load what we need but I have no experience with them.
Who else is a fan of 150 grain bullets?
My current load is 78.6 grains of 7828 @ 3360 fps. That was with Wichester brass which is no longer made. We used a tenth or so more for blown out .300 Weatherbys.
What brass is the best?
Is 7828 still the best choice for mid weight bullets?
What powder charge are you using?
I understand the potential of heavy VLD bullets but at this time not overly interested in fussing with seating depths or other quirks. Also most of our deer are killed at a range where the 150 grain bullet has an advantage out to 900 yards on deer that can be moving in timber making ranging them every few steps difficult. The 30" barrel should make for a scorching fast 150 gr bullet. 3500 fps plus? For the 1000 yd plus I might have a second recipe made up when I get some time to work on it.
Thank you,
Eyebrow

You can never go wrong with H1000 in the STW no matter what bullet weight you are using. RL26 is excellent, too.
If you're looking for custom ammo made for you, have you ever considered a mono bullet? Check out the guys at Hammer Bullets. I've switched all my cartridges to these bullets. Very accurate and devastating on game, plus you can push them faster due to their design. Steve Davis is one of the owners and very active on this website. They custom load ammo for a lot of people. I'm pushing their 143 gr bullet at a little over 3500 fps in a 26" barrel with 1:8 twist
