Rl26 and a 180eld yields 3149 out of this 30" barrel. Have pushed it to 3225 but had heavy bolt lift.

Last barrel was 28" and i ran it at 3075ish.

RL26 is a god send powder

RETUM
Hey all, I'm looking for some loads for a 7mm Rem Mag. I've only loaded for one, and that's my Dad's Remington 700. The current load we're shooting is with 162gr ELDs and RL26 in Norma brass using Fed 215M primers. We have tried multiple charge weights and seat lengths and can't get consistent results. We have checked the rifle over and don't see any issues with it. We are wanting to try a different powder. We have RL23, H1000, and IMR 7977 on hand and anyone of those should get around 3000fps. I also ordered a couple boxes of Berger 175 Elite Hunters for my .284, but we are going to try those in his 7mm just to see if they do any better. So what loads are you guys using with 162-175s in a 7mmRM with the powders I listed above? Thanks guys
RETUMBO will be your best bet. This is a later test I do with ever load development test. Start with the recommended starting charge of your reloading book. This is Berger Reloading book. So starting charge is 65.5 grains. Go up 1/2 a grain on every bullet till your at max load. I did go past max load, because I changed my coal length. When you Chang your coal ( pushing bullet close to the lands ) your pressure will change. Caution!! All rifles and reloading techniques will differ. Look at the target. See how 71, 71.5, and 72 grain powder charges on how close they are in elevation. ((( DONT adjust your elevation on your scope when doing a later test ))) keep aiming at the bull. I then loaded 5 bullets of those three charges. Do your later test at 300 yards at least. Anything less then that won't work. Once you find your best load at 100 yards your set. Hope this helps. 1 more thang I forgot to mention. After each bullet is fired walk down rang and mark what powder charge you just shot, that way you don't get confused. The reason I say walk is because your barrel will stay cool. It also keeps you calm and relaxed so you can stay focused on you next shot. Gotta get your steps in too. LoL

You might try 4831 with 140 grain noslers, mines a tack driver also used 160 noslers to take moose !

Well we just got back from the range. We got this rifle figured out. Below is the group my Dad just shot with the 162gr ELDs seated 0.050" off the rifling with 68.8gr of RL26. We're happy with that for a factory rifle. The group measures 0.470" center to center. A little improvement over yesterday! Thanks everyone for the help.

67.1 gr of H1000 under 162gr ELD-x. Hornady brass WLR magnum primer, out of a Savage 111 long range hunter = 2950 fps. Multiple 5 shot groups at 100 yds can be covered with a quarter. If I am doing my part, can be covered with a nickle.

We chronographed his load today. The average was 3071fps and the first 3 shots had an ES of 6fps, the last one brought the ES to 21fps. We're settling with this load. Thanks guys

I have an 8lb keg of Retumbo dedicated to one 7 mag and a bunch of same lot 180 grain hybrids because they shoots so well out of my dads Tikka superlight. Same combo shot one hole groups out of a fierce fury 7mag that I had. 24" barrels and both were around 2,950fps. My buddy bought a Tikka superlight in 7 mag. Has been trying to get 175 hybrids and RL26 to shoot. Hasn't yet. It should since RL26 seems awesome in everything else.

I just worked up a load today in my .284 with the Berger 175gr Elite Hunters. My groups sucked 0.015-0.030 off the rifling. I seated them 0.050 off and they shot less than 3/8". I would tell him to try seating them deeper than usual and see how they perform.

Tip:
You can color the bullets for the different charge weights with "sharpies ". That way you don't have to walk to the target after each shot.
