Hey all, I'm looking for some loads for a 7mm Rem Mag. I've only loaded for one, and that's my Dad's Remington 700. The current load we're shooting is with 162gr ELDs and RL26 in Norma brass using Fed 215M primers. We have tried multiple charge weights and seat lengths and can't get consistent results. We have checked the rifle over and don't see any issues with it. We are wanting to try a different powder. We have RL23, H1000, and IMR 7977 on hand and anyone of those should get around 3000fps. I also ordered a couple boxes of Berger 175 Elite Hunters for my .284, but we are going to try those in his 7mm just to see if they do any better. So what loads are you guys using with 162-175s in a 7mmRM with the powders I listed above? Thanks guys

96, work up to 68.0-68.3 gr of H1000 and 168 Bergers. This had been very accurate in seven different 7mm Rem of friends and family.
Awesome! I ordered the 175s for my rifle, but we may as well test them in his. According to Berger's twist rate calculator, they're right on the edge of stability in his 9.25 twist. He said if they don't work he is ordering some 168 VLD Hunting bullets next. With the 175s, I'll start at 66.5 grains and work up to 67.5 or so in 0.3gr increments. If he ordered 168s, I'll follow your load and see what they do. Thanks man, I appreciate it

I always like 4831sc for bullets around 160. And h1000 for the heavier 175 and up.
I don't have any H4831sc on hand, but I know I can get some from the local shop I get my powder from. We're going to try H1000 with these 175s and see what happens. Thanks for the help.

I have loaded for several different 7RMs and I've always had great luck with RL22 and 160gr Accubonds. I usually work up and find a sweet spot near max loads. I aim for 3000-3050 with that load, let the chrono do the tuning for me.

I've found a very accurate load with H4831 and 150gr Swift Scirocco's also

My load right now is a 180gr Berger HVLD at 2930 fps, using H1000. Attached is 781 yard 3 shot group. This is what I'm taking elk hunting in the fall.

I'm shooting 168 grain Nosler ABLR
at 2950 using H-1000. Single digit ES/SD and 0.4 MOA at 300 yards.

Have not measured groups at 600 or 1200 yet but had no problems getting on target.

I personally confirmed the bullet performs fantastic on game out to 300 deliberately taking hogs and deer through both shoulders. 1"-2" wound channels and instant kills. (Getting ready for high country elk)

Hope to take it to 600 this year.

I've been working on some loads for my sons 7mag. With 160 grainers have used H4831 in the past, but have been trying some RL23, it is looking promising with speed in the 2900's.

Thanks everyone for the help! Last night we loaded up some shells with the 162s, 68.8gr of RL26, Norma brass, but with a Remington 9.5 Mag primer. The first 3 were seated off the lands 0.035" and they shot 1". The vertical was less than a 1/4" but it was strung out horizontally. My Dad also had some H1000 loaded up at 69gr and it shot the exact same group size and was also horizontal.

Next we loaded the identical load with RL26 but pushed them back to 0.045 off. The H1000 load had zero pressure in his rifle and had soot on the neck and shoulder, so he loaded 3 more of those up with 70gr of powder. We ran back out to the range and he shot a 3 shot group with the RL26 and the ELDs 0.045 off that was 0.550 center to center! I'll attach a photo below of that group. The group with the bullets at 0.045 off still looks like it has a touch of horizontal stringing to it. The second shot on all the groups has been the flyer.

For the heck of it, we loaded 3 more but 0.050 off to see if they do any better than 0.045 off the lands. The further off the lands we seem to get, the more that flyer gets closer to the other two. The H1000 load at 0.045 off he pulled the last shot and opened it up to about an inch. The first two were about 3/8" apart, but the last one was almost an inch left of them. Still had no pressure at all with H1000. We now have 3 loaded with RL26 at 0.050 off and 3 loaded with 70.5gr of H1000 at 0.050 off. We're going out this morning to shoot them. We haven't done much load development with H1000, but he mainly wanted to see how it shot and how much he could get in there before he sees pressure. We plan to chronograph some H1000 loads if they shoot well.

What's RL26. I think like the unicorn, it's a myth.
Haha, we have about 10lbs of it. We have set it aside for our magnum rifles. I have been testing it in my .284 Winchester, but I'm going to load RL23 next because I can actually find it regularly haha.

My son has had good luck with the Berger 180 hunting vld bullets with Retumbo & H1000 out of this Encore prohunter & his tactical. Both have 28" barrels. He always finds the powder node first then adjusts the seating depth to get the best accuracy. AND the VLD(s) can be picky about seating depth. He is getting 3050fps out of his but he is pushing it. The Retumbo makes for more of a heavy push recoil instead of a super sharp recoil.
