7 saum load data for 162 & 175 eldx

I went ahead and built this rifle on a medium action to allow for a little more room to work with 175's. The reamer they used is 0.230" free bore. I'm going to test the 162 & 175 ELD-X, starting with 4831SC. I also have to H1000 I can test if needed, but hopefully don't have to. I have a 20" 8 twist proof. I'll keep you posted on my results.

I plan to start with CCI LR primers. Does anyone have any recommendations on LR vs Magnum primer?

In the meantime, anyone else have data to add?

I'm using a short action and a saami spec reamer. 20" Carbon 6, 8 twist
New ADG brass chamfered and .282" mandrel Fed. 215 primer
162gr ELDM at 2.180" CBTO, .024 thou off
62gr H4831SC, 2850fps

If you reload ADG brass is available at Montana Accuracy. It was when I bought 5 boxes of brass ($106.61/50 I believe).

Still waiting on build but May gathering information has lead me with h4831 sc on the mid weight bullets and h1k and rl 26 for the heavier.
may still experiment with h4350 on 160 gr bullets.

All good powder choices.

I was recommended to also try N560, N565.

H4350 will work very well with 160 but you may be reaching pressure before getting top velocity.
I switched to N560 and am very pleased with the velocity and accuracy I and my son got with 160 AB and 168 ABLR.

Some claims here say N565 is better for 180's although I've not tried them yet.

believe I'll load the 175 with rl 26. I like the case fill with rl26

not sure on h4350 or h4831sc Still undecided. Speed for this gun is not critical.
gun will be 500 yards and in.
I've had good luck with bother powders in the 175-180 class bullets.

we shall see. Getting close.

The 7saum is a new cartridge for me as I've never loaded any short mag types. Now I have 2 (6.5prc & 7saum). N560/565 looks to be the most promising with case fill? The 100 series is around 75-100fps slower. I also have a 7-08rem as to have another 7mil for companionship. All 3 bullets are previ's (120, 150 & 175) for test. I don't have any 26, 23 or 16 for any other cartridges to test on I'll be using 7828ssc, magnum, magpro and maybe 4831sc and imr4831. I don't know if any of the new Winchester powders would be any good/compatible for the 7saum? After I get these (AR 6.5prc & 7saum) functioning with max coal of 2.870ish" from LaRue mags I'll get some Berger, Nosler and Hornady's for further testing.

No real world experience in the saum for me but a friend of mine has had real good results with h1000 and rl 26 and berger 156
the n565 powder or N powders are great powders though.
im really thinking the saum with the 175 or 162 will be a great killerfor whitetail. Low recoil and great terminal performance.

I wish I knew more about the VV powders, I keep forgetting that's on my list. I didn't try them at the start because I couldn't even steal saum data for it. For me it's been 4831sc doing the best work for any lead, and now rl16 for the 140 absolute hammers. I tried the IMR "h1000" 7877 or whatever. weak performance all around, especially with the 175 which is what I got it for. The 4831 outran it and outshot the slower powder.

The best optimizing I got out of mine was the 168 ABLR at 2875 or so, I could fill that to a very light crunch with h4831 sc and not get pressure, that was jumping .100 and COAL of 2.93. Accuracy was good enough, and mathematically that was peak ballistics for my gun. People do much better in other actions, but that's what I got. That was about half a grain off loosening pockets, pretty flat primers.

Good point about the ball powders, I was thinking about it for my new 25-06, didn't even consider the 7! I stumbled across the new HD the other day, didn't know it existed, and I'm really curious to give that a taste. But it might be pointless, the limitation is my soft action not case capacity. But in stronger guns I bet it's going to have the goods.

I love what I have but I'd love to get this cartridge in a stronger action and let it eat.

You'll probably fall in love with the 26, but I can't even cause a bad result with h4831. Creepy accurate across every combo I tried and fast enough, as you say. In my gun it was peaky with the 175, but still accurate. RL16 has been insane for the light bullets in both accuracy and speed, I doubt 4350 would let you down. Both Hodgdon and Nosler data have been trustworthy in my case, they both show 4350 class as great below 145, 4831 catches up around 150g, and pulls away above 165. But like you say those are differences that only matter beyond your ranges. Way beyond. If you're going for raw accuracy and don't need maxed out ballistics h4831 has been my one stop shop.
