6.5 Staball Compaired to RL-19?

I need to talk my brother into killing something with it but he's all about his 270 wsm with the 116's. Browning medallion. It really is a sweet little rifle and I have to get after him not to use it for target shooting with those expensive hammers. The 25-06 really shouldn't shoot as good as it does, he shot the crap out of it and it's a super cheap bariska scope. You can't dial, have to holdover lol

Here's what I have. It was 3720fps and I just used a similar bullet in the Hornady app and did a guesstimate holdover and was hitting 6" gongs at 545 yards (500 meters) but it's basically just a truck gun.

I believe it was cci 200's. I've got it written down in the notebook I keep with the rifle along with the velocity ladder but that should get you close

I have almost three full pounds of IMR 4451. I don't remember the Velocity I got but it wasn't over 3600fps. Maybe I need to try a standard primer instead of a magnum.

I wouldn't think brand of brass will not make that much difference but definitely if you were using magnum primers your probably pressuring out early. I also ended up using lr primers with the 116's in the 270 wsm for a decent velocity. Hope that helps

I did play around and found one particular brand of brass had better es/ds than the other multiple flavors my brother had ran through it. I'm pretty sure it was Remington RP but again, I'd have to look. I'm not sure why this was but there was enough of it I just used it

I use the 90g Absolute Hammers in my 25-06 (Tikka, 1:10) with great success. Consistently below 0.75 moa. I settled on IMR4955 @ 57.5g, Winchester brass, and CCI 250s. Loads were running Absolutes 3,300 plus. I don't always trust my chrono.

I'm not seeing it either, am i missing something here ?
My 25-284 with rl 19 and standard lr primers with the 90 gr absolute and Lapua brass maxed out over 3800 fps . The 25-06 should do the same , nearly identical case capacity . Rl 19 is temp sensitive but works really well , I pressured out with h 4350 way early compared too rl 19

I see I also had a session at 3,500. Like I said, not confident in my chrono.

QL shows a max load of RL19 will move a 115 ballistic tip 109 fps faster than a max load of Staball 6.5 from a 24" barrel. Details as follows:

Staball 6.5: 56.1 grains @ 3,117 fps (94% load density)
RL19: 55.6 grains @ 3,226 fps (100% load density)
I have found StaBall to be an excellent all around powder. Good velocity, great accuracy and no temperature sensitivity.
Maybe a few deer slower than others, but totally stable at all temperatures and all distances.

I'd love to use RL-19 but the powder fairies haven't brought me any in a long time.
