6.5 PRC Regrets?

I bought a Bergara HMR Wilderness in 6.5 PRC that after a month of trying everything under the sun to rectify why it consistently shot fliers outside the group, I sent it back to Bergara to get figured out.

With that said, my Tikka T3x 6.5 Creedmoor shot 0.5 MOA or better all the way to 1000 yards with 143 ELD-X/H4350 handloads.

Anyone got a 6.5 PRC and with the tight chamber issues along with lack of component support, found it to not be worth the extra 200 FPS over the 6.5 Creedmoor?

Got a HMR here in 6.5 PRC and it does pretty well overall 100 or 1000. It has shot at least four 5-shot groups at 1000 yds. in the 7" range. Fixing to cure the clicker issue with a AW2 reamer. Pictured is the last six shots fired in rapid form from it. I'm going to stick with it for a while and do a little more tuning on it.

HMR 6.5 PRC
Had a broken extractor right off the bat, Bergara sent replacement parts out within a week. Other than that it has been a very good rifle. Worked up 143 ELDX loads with H4831sc that are shooting .5moa

Good question, I have 2- 6.5PRC rifles and a 6.5 Creedmoor that shoots the 140 berger at 2960 with very little recoil from a Hawk Hill 25 inch barrel. RL26 seems to be pretty magical for the Creedmoor.

Hey but now you can turn it into a 7 prc build and do it all over again 😃😃

My gripe stems from me starting to gravitate more to copper solid bullets. I've got a number of the 120 GMX on hand and the PRC (at least with the powders I have) didn't push them much faster than my creedmoor of the same barrel length. With RL26 the edge is more pronounced, but it makes the most sense with the heavy lead bullets.

No, I don't.

I had my reamer made specifically for the brass available at the time, which unfortunately was made by Hornady. But I developed loads and tested it in a couple of different barrels for hunting and target shooting. It didn't amaze me so I went back to my 6.5GAP4S or 6.5 SAUM whichever you prefer. I am more invested in the 6.5 SAUM than I wanted to be in the 6.5 PRC even including new brass offerings.

The 6.5 SAUM does what I need and want to accomplish with less fuss.

:)

I have a 6.5x47 with a 1:7 24" Bartlein barrel that will shoot the 135 gr BD2 all copper hunting bullet, G1BC=0.70 at 3000 fps with SB6.5 powder. Big improvement over the 120 GMX with a G1BC =0.428. Even the lighter 125 gr BD2 bullet with a G1BC =0.590 is a significant improvement over the GMX.
