6.5 PRC compared to .308 effeciency?

The 6.5 ballistics seem far superior to the .308 but the .308 still "pulls the wagon" just fine with much less powder and highly efficient projectiles.
Anyone shoot one beside the other at extreme range?

1000+ yards is a long way for 308 unless you have a long barrel (26 inches+) and a special projectile with high BC.

I shot my 6.5 PRC next to a guy shooting a .308 at a long range shooting class years back. Through the spotting scope it was like watching a fastball vs slow pitch softball. I was shooting the 153.3gr Berger at 2900 fps and he was shooting the 175gr Sierra Matchking at 2600 fps. My 1000 yard drop was around 24 MOA, his was 38 MOA if I remember correctly.

I run a 26" barrel 308 with 155's @ 3,000fps, and I also run a 260-AI with 140's at the same 3,000fps.
At 1,000 yards with both sighted at 300yds and my altitude, the 155 is -22moa low with 1594fps, and the 140 is -18.5 moa low with 1,943fps.

Even with the high pressure 308 Fury load I make from 277 Sig Fury hybrid cases running the 178 ELDX @ 2,980fps with a 300yd zero, at 1,000 yards the bullet is -19.7 moa low with 1,823fps remaining.

For target shooting, either one will reach 1200Y with sufficient elevation adjustment, regardless of drop at POI. You can run the numbers.

I'm comfortable on game out to 800 with a 26" barreled 308. 600-650 or so with the with the 20" barreled AR. The 26" barreled 6.5-06 gets 1000 easily at 2940 with a 147 eldm or 145 Match Burner. It's more forgiving.

Yes, that depends highly on the NUT behind the trigger. Some of the links I used to have no longer work, but guys like @MontanaMarine stretched the .308 Win's capabilities to or near 1500 yards with 215 Berger/208 A-Max, IIRC.

There is a reason there is a separate class for 308 in PRS because 308 is not competitive in Open class with the 6mm, high BC 25, and 6.5

Absolutely,. I'm sure Bamban could likely outshoot me with open sights on an M 14 and me with a scoped 6.5-06 or laser beam for that matter.
I used to shoot some with a Marine from Camp Lejeune that did 5 deployments on a sniper squad in Iraq and Afghanistan. I certainly couldn't keep up with him. He always referred to himself as being a "decent" shot. He would talk about Travis Haley's exploits with the 300 Black Out. Some folks are simply god gifted amazing!

Shooting at 600 on the same day back to back. 308 168MK, 6.5 creed 140MK, and either 6mmBR or 6mmARC with 105 Hdy, I don't remember which 6mm, the difference in wind calls was eye opening. Both the 6.5 and the 6 were much easier to keep on target. Elevation is just clicks, the wind is where better bullets really help. Love the 308 but today shoot mostly 6's and 6.5's.
