I'm about to have 6.5-06 built, and have been acquiring parts and components, lacking just a DBM setup, and trigger, but have at least 2 months to find them.

Question is, what powder does anyone recommend? I was thinking Norma MRP because of availability, but have been stockpiling RL 25 for use in other guns. I'm thinking the 25 will be a good match for 136-140gr bullets, any thoughts?

By Berger's and Hornady's manuals, it doesn't look like I'll have to play the powder fight game going on right now, as powders listed aren't the highly sought after ones.

Case capacities are nearly identical to that of the 6.5-284. Retumbo is my go to powder with the 6.5-06 or 6.5-284 with H4831 being a good choice as well.

Thanks stomp, but that is what I'm trying to avoid right now, the "Hodgdon" craze!
I've had the opportunity to buy these powders lately, but just don't want to get dependent on them, without buying 20lbs upfront.

I understand completely but unfortunately that's the only powders I have data with. These are what I used when I built mine so I have stuck to them. Hope you find something that works.

R-25 is a pretty reliable place to start looking. H4831sc is also a good choice. R-22 may well merit some investigation. I've not played with MRP. I'd like to see what you find.

Any more thoughts on RL 25 for this case? The brown santa showed up yesterday with 10 more lbs of it, I'm getting quite a stash.

Hi Horse4for.
Do you find the loads for your 6.5x284 and 6.5-06 more or less interchangeable?

Brit

Hey Brit no they are not but close the 6.5-06 ai has a little more case capacity. The standard 6.5-06 and the 6.5x284 are very similar.

My mistake Sir. Had not realised you were running the Ackley version. Nice cartridge and I had given it serious thought before opting for the 6.5x284.

Brit.
