You have misunderstood what im attempting to say.
I think we can all buy whatever it is that makes us happy, within the law of coarse.
Im just attempting to say that for long range hunting, while the very large cartridges might be needed for the very long shots,
the number of opportunities for using them will be very limited, primarily due to unfavorable conditions.
Which is also why the vast majority of long range hunting kills are under 1000 yds.

Oh, there is no misunderstand, AFAIK. All of the rifles we use are capable of hitting steel at 1200 yards. Maybe not the cold bore, but most shooters can sight it in. If you can hit ANYTHING at 1200, you could hit game under the same conditions.

I was just saying that I never plan to use a 375 CheyTac for hunting, not unless I was to go hunt the most dangerous game in Africa, but I don't plan on that...I'm getting too old for that. I will not shoot anything out that far, but it might be good to try on a varmint, before any big game I would eat.

Hey everyone. I have a buddy looking to build a cheytac. I usually don't have a problem finding components but I have struggling with this one. He is looking for a skeleton chassis and I have only been able to see a couple. Does anyone have any recommendations for chassis and actions.

Spend your money on an out of the box stock gun like a Rem Sendero, with a cheap 4-16 X 50/56+ in .300 RUM or smaller caliber! It can shoot "targets" at longer ranges than you can imagine! If you go for the .300 get a big muzzle break!
PS. I'm so long out of the game, is Remmington still in business?

Oh that would be my choice or another wildcat. My coworker just wants a giant gun for his last gun build just to have it.

If you decide on Terminus, you will need the Titan. The Titan has been killing it in ELR this year.

This is 100% true. Petersen makes the brass. I went with a snipetac which has a 35° improved shoulder, but fire forming as a pain in the neck. If I did it again, I would just go with the regular CT. It holds plenty of powder.

i wouldn't say velocity drops off, but more of a less fps gain per inch after a certain length with certain powders. powders with less gas volume will do this.

Velocity can drop off after 32 in small rifle cartridges, but in the big boomers shooting 24n41, 20n29, US869, you're still getting noticable velocity gains all the way up to 40 inches. It's just after 28-32 the FPS per inch starts to go down, but you're still gaining speed for a solid 1-2 feet of barrel after that on a cartridge like the 375 Cheytac or 416 Barrett, its just usually not worth the difficulty of fitting it in a case or vehicle once you get past around 36. To the average person at least, I'm sure theres someone with a 48 inch 375 cheytac lol

I don't think anyone has seen velocity drop in supersonic center fire rifle ammo due to barrel length.
IIRC 22LR starts losing velocity around 16-18 inches

Looks like 36" in this test. With a 308win. So with something with
110 to130grs could probably go
6'.

40" ish seemed to the point of diminishing return but doesn't look like they ever really lost velocity due to the longer barrel.

As for testing various barrel lengths for velocity, Probably 30 or so years ago Dan Lilja of Lilja barrels conducted such a test.
As i recall he started with a barrel of 38 inches or more while using a large magnum cartridge.
For each inch he cut from the length the velocity loss was about 25 feet per second. Again as i recall.
But the results of that test should still be around somewhere.

Totally depends wheee you live. You can do ELR every hour of almost every day where I hunt. That's why I hunt there lol.
