33 nosler speeds

I know it's not super popular but a few here have them. What bullet/powder and speeds are you getting outa your setup?

I'm putting together a new build and it's on my list. 33 nos, 338 prc, choked down 338 rum. I want to mag feed these in cip length xlr 4.0. I would build the rum but I'm sure I will have to jump the heck outa it. I'm thinking I want to run the 250 ish bullets. The "338 prc" new version of the 338/375 should out run the 33 nosler a bit. The up side I see about the nosler is availability for everything. If I could accurately get the 250's 2900 or more I would probably be happy. This will be a mild 338 mtn elk rifle for 1000 and in. More times then not 800 and In. I have multiple 300 wm's shooting 215's. 300 wsm, 300 nmi, 338 lapua imp, 6.5 prc, and others. So I'm really thinking a mild 338 will fill a gap for me. Not that it's needed.

My 33 SM is an improved 300 PRC case that is performing very well. With RL26, I've reached 3100 with 250's and 2800 with 285-300's before pressure. Good operating loads are 50' and less below that. Several other powders will run 50' or so slower. My barrel is only 24" too.
I have everything is stock including brass, dies and reamers. I would definitely consider this one along with others you mentioned.

With a 26" barrel and the right powders I can get to 2950ish with the 265lrab from my 33. I have struggled to get any bullet >225gr over 2900 with any powder other than rl19 or 26. The most accurate thing I have found from mine is a 225ttsx down at 2850ish.
If you have 4" oal available I would go to a 338 rum case. The 33N case is about perfect at 3.75-3.8"oal. But if you have 4" available you may as well go with the 338 rum or even a 338 edge. The 33 sherman based off the prc case would also be a good choice.

I have looked into your 33sm. Was hoping to find more guys posting about it then I did. But understand it's fairly new. I am somewhat ok being one of the early adopters/tester but the more real world #'s I can find the better. I'm familiar with your 30sm as I know a few guys running them. I haven't ruled out your 33. I can see the potential.

I'm planning to drop this in a xlr mag 4.0 chassis which obviously runs a cip length mag with inside usable coal of 3.750. I've been wanting to try a chassis for awhile so figured a mild 338 for the shorter 250's. I could obviously single feed it and go edge or rum or jump it possibly. Being it will finish around 9lbs I think the 250's will be more pleasant too shoot and spot hits especially for my small framed wife. Good info on your 33 nos. I've looked around at as much info as I could find (which is not much) and seems some are getting around 2900 out of them with the 250's. My smith has a reamer for the "338 prc" but no real data so a little bit of a gamble but there isn't any reason it shouldn't work. Very similar to the 338/375 guys were building in the past and similar to the 33sm.

the 30 is a good reference from my own rifles. They perform accordingly with the bore size.
Plenty of guys run the 245-250 around 3000' with 28" barrels so if you increase the bore and run the same bullet weight in the 33, It makes sense that I ran a 250 up to 3100

Wouldn't it make more sense to run the 33sm instead of the mega as I have the mag/coal room? Maybe I'm wrong?

I have some Peterson 33 Nosler brass I will sell you if you decide to build one. I decided to do a 338 rum instead.

Out of my 33 Nosler, I'm getting 3100fps using 200 grain Nosler Accubond, with IMR 7828SSC.
Using 250 grain Berger VLD Hunting, I'm getting 2920 using H4831SC

Perfect info. If I can hit 2900 +- with the 250's I would be happy. I think… as of now I'm leaning towards the 33nos but not set in stone.

Another consideration is a 33-28 nosler. Would get you more capacity, and likely just be a sizing up and load thing. Would take custom dies and reamer, and probably wouldn't get you much over a 33 sm, not really sure if it would be worth it, for what it sounds like your going for, probably not. Just another option to throw in the pot.

What is your intended barrel length, and are you gonna run braked or supressed?

I've considered the 33-28 as well. I have a benchmark carbon 26" sitting here for it. It will be braked. The whole build will be a xlr 4.0 mag w/ carbon butt stock, kelbly nanook, benchmark carbon 26", terminator t3, mark5hd etc. my plan is to finish around 9-9.5 lbs and it will be a a mtn elk rifle. Reason to keep with the 250's is since it will be what I consider to be on the lighter side for long range I want it to be shootable and spot impacts. Especially for people like my small framed wife or on occasion when others use it who may shoot less and not have optimal recoil management.
