.308 Best Rounds

308 is one of my favorite calibers. I've shot a lot of different animals with it. Deer, pigs, axes, coyotes to name a few. My favorite bullet is a 168 grain Berger classic Hunter or vld hunting. They give the bang flop performance. Good luck on your choice.

I know federal did make a 165 sierra gameking load if they still do it should meet your parameters for the ammo

I have shot around 7 or 8 whitetails with them the past 4 years ranging from 20 yards to 260 yards, and everyone of them have been pass throughs and none went further than 40 yards. If they dont drop on the spot they leave a pretty massive blood trail.

Ballistic Tips got a bad reputation years ago because they would tend to explode a bit. Over the past 10-15 years Nosler has been using a thicker jacket on them and they hold up really well. For whitetails I personally prefer them to accubonds.
For a minute there I thought I was reading something I posted.I totally agree and have very similar experiences with them and same opinion comparing them to Accubonds.

I also like 125 TNT's with a great variety of powders and velocities from 3000 - 3250. I shoot these at all sorts of targets from my stubby, fly weight McGowen barreled Kimber 84M - 500, .308 TNT's can be had for $85.

Don't know if there are any 125 TNT factory loads.

The best factory ammo I have found for 308 is the Federal Trophy Copper, 165 grain for good groups and my son dropped an aoudad no problem at 500 yards.

With the current state of zero to no factory ammunition to be found, I would suggest finding a friend who already reloads versus starting reloading.

Components for reloading are also hard to find and veteran loaders probably have stocked up already if they are smart.
