30-06??

A 30-06 is about the max recoil I want to shoot in a really light hunting rifle. If you were strictly shooting targets then A 6.5 CM would be fine, manbun optional. For hunting a 6.5 CM is fine too. I just believe an 30-06 would be better for elk, especially with a 200 plus grain bullet.

the 30-06 is a fine round and is capable of taking most North American game animals from a good distance. Reloading and experimentation will bring great results, but there are enough factory loads available that at least several will be optimal in your rifle.
I Freely admit That 30-06 is overkill for whitetail deer. But I like to slaughter animals not just killed them. You Don't have to use a bullet that causes massive tissue damage to put them down. Just a good expanding bullet with a complete pass through. And I like the extra thump that 30-06 puts on them.
