30-06 load make up help

my 06 liked 52grs imr 4350 with 200gr.smks my manual showed 53.7gr of imr4350 it groups were good but not as good at 52grs my load was slightly compressed at max charge with no pressure signs I don't think I could get much more out of the imr4350 without alot of compression.

most powerful and flat load in 30-06 is the federal TT4 factory loading. nothing i can load at home comes close.

the TT4 load is 2880 with a tipped bonded bear claw 180 grain., i have the 180 partion load (2888) and the 180 bear claw load (2880), have not been able to get the tipped bear claw load.

those look like some great medium range loads wish they would load with some accubond lr.s or some bergers my rifle doesn't like 180s at factory lenght but I haven't tried those particular bullets though...

Concerning 4350 and 200gr+ bullets

I have found with 180gr bullets 4350 will be at or slightly less than 100% load density. With 200 grain and above bullets you may want to try 4831 or even H1000/Retumbo to get the density up and therefore the velocity. 4350 will not fill the case behind a 200+ grain bullet.

56.5gr of 4350, Rem 9 1/2M primer, WW brass and Sierra 180gr GK produces 2930fps in my 27" custom M98. Now 27" is a long barrel but middle son's Rem 700 w/ 24" barrel turned up 2910fps. 2800fps should happen in most rifles. 80fps more (2800 - 2880) is not really significant.

I stay with 180gr Sierra's because of great all around performance in my rifle. But Berger 210's and 215's may prove to be the long range medicine that replaces them. If I can get +2700fps with them.....

My gun hates the 180s factory Feds. I am hoping to get at least 2600 with these loads.

I have both h1000 and 4831 but I don't have any loading data for those so I am sticking with the data that I do have. I didn't load magnum primers just CCI bench rest LR. I hope that this doesn't affect it too much.

if your referring to 200gr. Bullet then 2600 is achievable the 21in. Barrel is a factor though, the manual I use states that 51.8gr. Of imr4350 is at 2600fps with a 24in barrel that velocity is a ball park cause every rifle is different but it should be pretty close if you using a 180 it shouldn't be a problem to get higher than 2600

According to Hodgdon's:

H4831 with;
200gr Nosler AB 59gr (compressed) 2586fps 49.3 Kcup
200gr Speer 57.5gr (compressed) 2577fps 49.4 Kcup
208gr Hornady Amax 58gr (compressed) 2511fps 58.7 KPSI

IMR 4831 with;
200gr Nosler AB 54.2gr (compressed) 2550fps 56.8 KPSI
200gr Speer is not listed
208gr Hornady Amax 54,9gr (compressed) 2538fps 59.5 KPSI

For reference 30/06 is 50Kcup Max and 60 KPSI Max to differentiate these two pressure standards.

I would consider the 4831 type of powder for 200+ grain bullets. Looking at the data Retumbo isn't listed and you cannot get enough H1000 or 7828 into the case to reach maximum pressure.

Looks like 4831 is your horse for this race.

GETN- for bull elk and 200 grain bullets use 59 grains of 4831 br-2 primer. see nosler manual for other loads. my remingtons both shot the fed HE loads into less than 1" ?? unfortunetly the 30-06 tt4 load is no where to be found . i loaded and shot over 2000 rounds of 30-06 one year i was competing a lot. i do not use factory; but nothing comes close to them . good thing it is long time to elk season. supposed to have some fed tt4 by july. in mean time keep having fun shooting. my hunting 30-06's are 5.9 and 6 .1 lbs, not much fun from the bench.

sierra manual list 200gr. Smks and gamekings 53.7gr. Imr4350 2700fps seems like a faster horse to me

sierra reloading data..
accuracy load 51.8gr.s imr4350 velocity 2600fps -3002 ft.lbs.
hunting load 57.3 gr.s imr4350 velocity 2700fps -3238ft.lbs.
200 gr. Hpbt matchking -200gr.SBT.
