Ok so I am considering buying a Nosler M48 Heritage in 30-06. I can get one for a pretty great deal for what they are...they come with 1:10" twists. That's an awful quick twist for an '06. On JBM the stability factor has it like 2.4 for most 175gr bullets and below at 500 feet altitude. Going up to like 8000 feet it's a stability factor of 2.8 or so. Are is that 1:10 going to over-stabilize medium weight bullets or will they be fine? Will accuracy suffer/bullet jackets separate potentially?

I have a Rem. 760 pump in 30/06 and according to Rem. it has a 1:10 twist. It shoots 150 and 165 gr. bullets to 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards. Also a friend has a Savage mod.110 with 1:10 twist and it too shoots 150 and 165 grain bullets under 1 inch at 100 yards. I don't know what a higher elevation would do with either rifle.

Very few rifles chambered in 30-06 come with twist other than 1-10.
I have never heard of any problems at high elevation.

I would not go slower than 10" twist in any .308 cal. The last 30 cal that we built was on an 8" twist. The one that we just ordered barrel and action for is on a 9.4" twist.
