Looking to chamber a short action and wanting a heavier bullet. I think a 284 win would be pretty efficient with a 168 to 175 gr bullet. Thoughts?
Short action 700Rem... short action Defiance..I think medium Defiance and short Rem you can get a 3.2 box.Looking to chamber a short action and wanting a heavier bullet. I think a 284 win would be pretty efficient with a 168 to 175 gr bullet. Thoughts?
That sounds pretty good. 3.0" might be ok, most are 3.0". Leave the heavy bullets for the boomers.I think the perfect 284 Win action would be about 3.1" for 150-160's,
Use a long action with a 26" barrel.Looking to chamber a short action and wanting a heavier bullet. I think a 284 win would be pretty efficient with a 168 to 175 gr bullet. Thoughts?
That works if he's single feeding. Not so much if using a magazine/repeater, when he would have OAL issues.Couldn't he do the short action and just have it throated for whatever bullet he intended to use so it wouldn't protrude into case to far?
What powder are you using? Is your M88 a rifle or a carbine? That is great speed for a bullet that long in a mag fed M88!I have a win 88 in 284 it's a pain to get anything over about 140gr to mag feed. 140gr TSX seated to 2.800" hit 2950 and shoot well. I wouldn't build one on a short action for long bullets unless it's a single shot
