What is better? They seem like they generate the same speeds? Case life using Lapua brass or no belt?

Better? I won't say better, but I'd prefer the 6.5x284. I don't think adding a bit of velocity makes as much difference as adding more bullet. So, for me that means if I'm going to build a rifle around a magnum it won't be the .264.

Can you seat bullets better out of the 6.5x284 case? More neck room?
I also prefer the case design of the 6.5x284 and availability Lapua brass.

Mine is only a few years old. I also like it because I got a smoking deal on 300 pieces of Norma brass and still bought 200 pieces of Lapua brass the same week because it was priced lower than I'd ever seen it.
That said, better take a good look at the 6.5 Sherman. Had I known about it, I would have likely gone that route and used Norma brass. In fact, I have an older 7mag that I've done very well with over the years, that I'm going to sell just to make room for the Sherman.
