260 help

I just got my new 260.
Heavy Krieger barrel, 28", stainless, with a trued Remington action, in a bedded Sendero stock.
My question is I believe the barrel is 1/8 twist and I wanted to start with 100 or 120 grain Nosler BT. Does anyone have experience with these bullets and twist?
If so what are some good reciepes for the lighter bullets.

You should be fine with that twist and a 120 or 100 grainer. Just have to see if they shoot well. I'm sure they will. With a 1/8 twist you could shoot the 140 grain bullets if you wanted to go with a higher BC bullet.

I've just started playing w/ a .260ai. I'm finding RL19. IMR4831 working well w/ 120gr bullets & H414, RL15, 4064 working well w/ the 100gr. I just started load dev. so drop a line & let me know how you are coming. Mine is a 27" PacNor on a M700.

I am not sure what powder I will start with, everyone has a different story, but 4350 and 4895 seem to be a light bullet powders so far.

I think 4895 will be a bit fast, but ok for the 100gr. 4350 is just about right for the 120gr. Slower pwoders for the heavier bullets. Give IMR4831 a try w/ the 120gr. The med. burners like, RL15, 4064, etc. will do well w/ the 100gr.

For me so far (long 30" Pac-Nor SuperMatch) Varget and H4350 have worked really well behind the long match bullets such as the 139gr Scenar and 140/142gr SMKs. RE-19 works well behind the 123gr Scenar; haven't tried it w/ the 140gr pills, but it's supposed to work well there too. H4831 and H1000 come into play w/ the heavy bullets and long long barrels if you are trying to fill the case and/or get max velocity.

I shooot a 26" Krieger and 120 BalTips W/ 45.5 gr H4350, CCI BRII, WIN 7-08 Brass. The load chronos at 2970fps and groups around 1" at 300 yards. Caution, the WIN 7-08 brass is lighter thus needs more powder to get said velocity than Lapua or REM brass. Also have a load using the same components except N-140 powder (41.5gr) at 3010fps. I shot one 5-shot group at 300 yards 1.3". This is my coyote load for the winter.

I shoot a 260 Rem in USPSA bolt rifle matches and select sniper matches. It is a Hart barreled 26", Rem 700, 1-8 twist, I shoot the 140 Hornady AMAX with 43.2 gr. of H4350, OAL 2.850" FED match primers, I get 2816 fps with an ES of 18 fps. I have used this rifle/load to shoot a pile of sub 1" groups @ 300 yards and placed 5th at the nationals with it. 260"s ROCK !

WOW those are some good groups, I hope I can get results like that!
I will try 4350 and 4064 with 100 grain BT and get some 120s soon also.
I have to break barrel in and all so it will be a couple weeks till I see some good results I hope.

Being in somewhat of a hurry and having moderate equipement and experience, I bought Remington brass to start with, even though I have heard it is not the best choice.
What do all use for brass and how do you get it ready to load? I have a 260 Lee Collet neck die, and it looks like Win 7-08 brass would be the easiest (or not) to get ready?
Is neck turning involved in this neck up/down process? (cause I dont have any of that equipment).

Kevin, I use the RP stuff & it's ok. I also neck up Lapua, great brass, but I haven't seen any ral advantage yet. You can also neck down 7-08 or .308. For me to neck down .308 I had to first go down to 7-08 & then to .264. The .308 brass has a ;ittle less cap. than RP.260. I outdide turned the .308. Still experimenting so more to follow.
