26 Nosler ????

It looks like a shortened RUM case. What they have is a 6.5 STW in a shorter fatter case. I did a print drawing of a 7mm version about a year ago anticipating the production of a 195 gr 7mm bullet.

I shortened RUM cases to get the same capacity as STW cases and my length was almost exactly the same as theirs.

If you saw my print and their print you would think they were done by the same person. There are some slight differences and those differences make me like mine better. The only reason I don't already have my reamer is because Hornady wouldn't take my order for case forming dies.

It sure looks that way, the body diameter at the web is .551" and 300 Rum is .550"
top of body at the shoulder is .529" and 300 Rum is .525"
pretty darn spot on, the 375 Ruger is a bit skinnier with .532" at the bottom and .515" at top
(ammo guide #'s)

They really should have gone with a longer neck, at least .300" or even .320"

The QuickDesign provided 300 RUM is .551 at the web.
If I measure a rum case at 2.1612 I'd bet it's close to .532
so
I agree they started with a 404Jeffery/RUM and not a 375Ruger

Oh my, barrel life spreadsheet says 458 rounds!

umm, $1 per round in barrel life, for hunting not a problem AFAC. For target not so much.

My 264WM is much cheaper to shoot and the 26 does not improve on it enough to warrant the extra expense.

I have already hit 3052, 3088 and 3108 with a average of 3083 with a 160gr Woodleigh PPSN using 71gr of the old H570 and will be testing 73gr of H570 so why would I need a 26N

I'm shooting a 6.5 weatherby based on the 270 weatherby case shooting 140 bergers at 3275 fps. Using VV n-560. Tested loads up to 3400 to see what the brass would handle started loosening primer pockets at 3300. Backed off to 3275 to prolong brass life

I don't know what a Dakota holds but a 300 RUM that is cut off at 2.160" will hold 90.1 grains of H1000.

So I would expect the 26 Nosler to hold that same amount when filled to the body/shoulder junction.

An unfired 300 Dakota case will hold 90 gr of Retumbo (tapped) to the bottom of the neck. A fired sized one should hold 1 or 2 gr more. A fired FL sized 300 RUM case will hold about 105 gr of Retumbo (tapped) to the bottom of the neck. So I'm guessing the 26 Nosler will hold about 98 give or take a gr.

For me, a little too overbore for the 6.5. The 300 Dakota is about as far as I would want to go in a 6.5. It would make a great 270 or 7mm round. Hopefully Norma starts making brass for it.

How long is your barrel im bouncing back and forth between the 264 WM and 26 nosler but as of right now I think im gonna go with the 264 wm with a 26" or maybe a 28 " barrel and let everyone else be nosler's test mule and if it turns out to be a great cartridge with benefits over the 264 Wm I could always re-chamber to a 26 nosler

I have a Remington 721 with a Shilen 30" barrel with 1 in 8 twist. The 264WM is cheaper to shoot. I will be trying the old H570 powder with the JLK 130gr VLD. With H4831 I have hit a 3 shot average of 3239 I should be able to reach over 3300 with the H570.
