The 27 Nosler is finished.

Specifications:
Action:Remington 700, pieced together from parts.
Barrel: 270 take off, 24"
Brake: a radial brake from Brownells, that's all I know.
Reamer: PTG, I wish I could get them to send me the print.

Pictures of the rifle did not come out so I'll have to do them over.

The Pressure Trace II is behind the barrel. The initial pressure registered as ~41000psi. I think it's a little low. Then the whole thing freaked out and started registering 150,000 + PSI. If that was true I would be writing something different. Time to RTFM.

Load:
Brass: 26 Nosler necked up
Powder: Retumbo
Charge: 86grns
Bullet: Sierra 140 GMK
COAL: 3.265
Primer: CCI 250

3376 average fps. I consider this a starting load. Quickload predicted 3200fps.

Seems not as much interest in the 27-Nosler as the 30 (308) or 33 (338).

It is way faster than anything practical in a 270 anything, Wby, WSM or other wildcats. The efficiency is very good but that will show as I get testing done.

Barrel burner wise it's not as bad as a 7mmRUM but pretty high on the index.

The 10 twist take off barrel may not stabilize the Matrix .277 165 VLD but if someone can send me 10 or so, I will do a pressure ladder with the PTII. I'll pay the postage.

Just priming the pump. This rifle will be for sale after testing. As Is or You can provide a barrel I will have it chambered in any of the Nosler wildcats 27, 28, 30 or 338, make sure it functions properly.

Of course through the process of proofing loads for the 27-Nosler more pictures will be provided.

If you are interested in a particular bullet in the 27 Nosler, let me know. I will work it up, shoot it, chron it and Pressure Trace II check it.

If I have the bullets, I will just do it.

If I don't have the bullet, you could send me 10 for the test. Since it's just a safety ladder and pressure test I don't need much more than that. I'll pay the postage. If you don't have them and I can get them from Bullet Samples for Sale-Sportsman Rifle Bullets I will.

Not guaranteeing that I will do them all but that was the purpose of the build to see how it works and it works and to make some data...gun)

A good many guys have had good luck stabilizing the 165 Matrix in 1-10's even at low elevation, at 5600 I can stabilize the 175's even, at any rate you don't need stability to get possible performance data. Looks like you've made WSM top end velocities but with 15 more grains of Retumbo, the Matrix are really the bullets that would be interesting, I'll look in my stash but I think I'm out.

just ordered 200 165 matrix for a wildcat I am working on close to yours. I will send a handful when I get them sometime next week. what is h2o capacity on your fired cases

I have Nosler 150ABLR, Berger 150VLd, 130CH, and 165 Matrix.

I am interested in a 27 Nosler and have a M70CRF Laredo 300WM that has a crappy barrel.lightbulb

That's the starting load. PMII said 41,000psi QL said 48,000psi. At 58,000psi we're talking 3400fps from a 24" barrel leaving more head room.

I haven't measured the fired cases yet and it will have to wait until after elk hunt.

Sounds like you like the 277 calibers. I don't want to talk out out of a 27-Nosler, just a reminder that the 7mm/284, 308 and 338 will fit anywhere a 300 WinMag will fit.

I have to work on the 338 before anything else. I'm back from that hunt on the 19th.

I have been kicking around the idea of a 270-300wm for a while, I also like 2.5" cases. The Nosler fits pretty well. It would be an unbraked rifle so the recoil with 270 heavy bullets is about as much as I want. 3450 with a 140,3300 with a 160??- sounds good to me.i

I have a 270Sherman, 2 270 WSM's,7Rm,300RUM,300WSM,7WSM, etc.

If you can shoot your RUM unbraked, you will be fine.

52 rounds of stout magnums Monday and I was a little sore. 21 27-Nosler - minimal brake, 20- 338 Edge Harrels spiral, 11 270 Wby no brake.

I promised someone in some thread that I would post a copy of the QuickLoad pressure graph next to the Pressure Trace II graph.

Can't find that thread and the data is for the 27-Nosler so it's going here.

The form is pressure over time.

The scale on the Pressure Trace II graph still needs work. I just don't think it's really 58k psi.

Barrel timing for both is correct. Velocity calc in QL is slow by about 100fps.

Data and settings, data and settings.

The amazing thing is that the 2 graphs tell the same story.

I just measured the cases at 102.1grns of H20.

Updated the QL model and got closer. Velocity is still underestimated but as I get more data the models will get better.

thanks for case capacity. good luck on elk hunt. if still interested in 165 matrix let me know
