i would go with 25-08. my thought was you have more available of brass with the 308 family of case than you would with the 284. i just finished building a savage chambered 257 Roberts only 1-10" twist its more meant for coyote than anything. what do you plan on hunting?

Get some horsepower behind those big bullets.
25/06 AI or .25 Sherman.
The Sherman is formed from 270 or 280 cases. Standard 25/06 cases are too short.

I love the quarter bore, had 5 25-06's at one time, only 1 now. Also have 257AI on a custom Mauser '98 I built, it also has a 338-06 barrel, both having 10" twists, and have a 257 Bee I picked up at a reasonable price with only 60 rounds down the tube, it's an Accumark and shoots very well.
I really like the 284 case, have a 6.5 blank here with a 1:8" twist that has had a rough chamber job in 6.5-284 and not touched since, never got around to finishing it, even though I have a REM 700 it could have gone onto. I built a few 25-284's back in the day, as well as 30 cal.
I feel the performance of the 284 case is a worthwhile investment.

Another vote for the 25-284. I have one with a 1-7.25" twist 25" Helix6. I've only shot the 131 BJ with R26. This gets me 3150-60 FPS.

Of the 2: 25-284. But dont discount the 25 creedmoor. Waiting on mine from APR now.

I would like to keep in a short action. I know the 25-08 would not be a problem. The 25x284 would most likely need a Med to Long Action.
1:7.25 seems like the best twist.

25 Souper I think is the 08 AI if I remember right. I looked pretty hard at building one when I had a short action.

25-08 should get 257 Bob performance and be easy on the powder supply.

I'd think 25 creed would be the go to as well. The popularity of the Creedmoor case doesn't seem to be fading, quality brass available, and it's semi standardized now vs the 25-308, even though the reloading process would be the same without a head stamped parent case. 25 Creed would just sell more in my mind

I went with the 25 08 simply because of barrel life ,65 284 doesn't last that long I imagine a smaller bore would last even less.

I like 25-08, and add 40* shoulder Ai. necking down 260rem is the easy button.
I'm waiting on my reamer for a 27-08 Ai40* for the same reason you stated.
And why not, be different.

25 creed brass is available from peterson. One of the most accurate rifles I own.

I also have a 25 PRC and 25 SST that shoot fantastic.
