I've played the 1/4" game a time or two, Now only have a 257 Roberts in a model 70 featherweight and a 25 souper on a jap Arisaka sporter. I have had a 25/284, 25/06, 257 Weatherby. I even had a 6.5 rem mag necked down to 25, that was an interesting round. If you want to go short action I would either go 25 souper or 25 creed. And those 133 and 135 grain Bergers would probably require a faster than 1-10 twist.

I would like to keep in a short action. I know the 25-08 would not be a problem. The 25x284 would most likely need a Med to Long Action.
1:7.25 seems like the best twist.
I had my 25/284 built off a Ruger Flat Bolt short action and it is my go-to antelope and open country deer rifle. My current load is 120gr slug. Haven't had a chance to work with anything heavier yet.

Waiting for my barrel to get finished in 25 CM. What is your load data, if you don't mind me asking?
Given your parameters I would go with a 25x08 AI- no need for me to do however because I have a 3 - 250-3000 AI's already, they are death and destruction on antelope and hogs with 80 gr Barnes TTSX- ( I look forward totesting the Hammer bullets in the future ) I have posted several times that Sierra uses the 250-3000 AI to test their 25 cal bullets for accuracy, enough said.

I am pretty sure that going to go with a 25x284, long action, berger 133, 135gr.
Really wanted to stay with a short action for the 25-08, but bullets my be too long. I'll compare cartridges with my .260 using 142 SMK. That works in a short action. and should have close COAL
Bingo

I like HP behind these big bullets.
They are a different beast than the typical 110-115's

And Mike, Mr Rich Sherman has the reamer for the 133 & 135 Berger. I used 280ai brass also. Plenty room. Plenty neck too.
That's seated at .030 jump
Meh those long, skinny cartridges just don't do it for me. Short & fat is where it's at.

I'll vote again for 25 SAUM unless you just don't want a magnum class cartridge.

IMHO, I dont think it is easier to find .25-06 or .257 Bob brass than .308,6.5-284 or 25CM brass
You can take 270, and 30/06 brass for 25/06 cases. Not for sure but 7mm may also work. Don't have my reloading manual close presently. I feel just a little short on powder with the heavier bullets that are out now.

I don't think I'd build either of those after what I've experienced with my Ruger #1 in 25-06 shooting 90gr Absolute Hammers over 3600 fps. 3 shots, 3 dead deer....

.
Yep. I've got a Ruger no 1 in 25-06, and it'll shoot right at 1" groups at a hundred, which is pretty impressive for a no 1. I've shot 2 deer using 120grain core-likes, and a 300 pound boar hog using a 100 grain swift a-frame. The rifle's done good for me.

I like 25-08, and add 40* shoulder Ai. necking down 260rem is the easy button.
I'm waiting on my reamer for a 27-08 Ai40* for the same reason you stated.
And why not, be different. 👍
Agreed! If different pulls your trigger, go for it! I've been interested in the 27-08 AI for a while, and wanted to build one myself, but had some health issues come up. Looking forward to hearing about your build as it progresses.
