22 creed 73gr Absolute hammers!

seems to me they have one with a tight point and one with a much more open point correct. One obviously better BC, the other has a much better chance of opening up well correct?

Of the Hammers that you've found, what % of retention are they displaying? And how often do they have any petals left?

they r designed to always blow petals off, on the 70gr 22 cal it will weigh 42/44grs if u catch one lol hard to catch one without a angled shot! in the pictures i posted early u will see a doe with neck blow into, was a straight on shot went down top of back stuck in ham, bullets posted to

yeah bullets that go to wadd cutters typically pene pretty darn well---cool many thanks I will give them a go. I've used the TTSX off and on for many years pretty sure they run pretty much the same.

One thing I do like about the mono's is that typically one will have much less meat jelly on them...makes for much cleaner buttchering which I do all my own of.

Thx again

(I ordered some of the 90 grain Absolutes for my super accurate 25/06, should make for a great round for elk on down for me

I've been using the 22/250 and the Swift for 43 years on deer, antelope, black bear and elk. Prior to this last year I've just used standard 14 twist barrels and 55-63 grain bullets.

I've mainly used standard cup n core bullets, found them to kill quicker than the preme bullets. We've a string of 30 one shot kills from 35 yards to 400 yards using the 60 Horn HP. Only two of them went anywhere the others went straight down! The two that went anywhere were a small whitey doe at 120 yards that took a 35 or so yard sprint and a muley buck at 35 yards that took a big hop and fell off a mountain.

This last year I had a 22/250 AI with 8 twist put together just so I can shoot the heavier bullets a bit.

The 22 CM is a wonderful round and incredibly capable as well as the other large 22's. The rigs are giant killers for sure!
I have a 22 Creed being finished as we type. I have plenty of Barnes 78gr TSX bullets, and some Hornady 70 grain GMX HPs that are marketed for LE, but are the same bullet used in other larger calibers for extreme penetration on tough game. I am going to be using some low 70s-something grain Hammers, but in the Hammer Hunter. The Criterion barrel has a 7 twist. Wish Hornady would make an 80+ grain ELD-X! I will try the 88 grain ELD-Ms, since this is what the barrel is throated for. People say it makes a very nice southern whitetail bullet.

300Dak-sounds like a nice rig, what will you be using it for and to what ranges?

How did you like the Scirroco's performance?
They did exactly what they were supposed to. None ran more than a few yards, and jelly organs inside. It's been a long time and I wasn't in tune to keeping up with bullet performance at the time, but they put deer down fast. I've been looking for some in stock to try in the 22 creed but haven't found any.

That ol scirocco good bullet. Wife killed a buck with it in my 8t Swift 562 yds!

U will
Like the hammer better on deer than the others u mentioned, iv shot em all. Barnes and gmx hp is to small, it wont expand like a hammer! Elds will
Kill for sure but no blood trail!

OK guy-s, great info.
NOW, I could use some of your knowledge help.
I re=barreled my 22/250 to a AI with 1n8 twist.
I loaded 55 gr V-max at about 3700 fps. The bullets hit the target looked like shotgun load.
l then loaded Serria 69gr about 3600 and got about a 3/4" group ce
Any advice or suggestions appreciated.

beaueel ,

You are over-spinning the 55gr. V-Max
3700FPS in a 1:8" twist barrel produces 333,000 RPM's of rotational speed .
That same bullet and 3700 FPS velocity in a 1:12" twist barrel produces 222,000 RPM's of rotational speed . Check with Hornady , I think that the V-Max is not strong enough to handle that many Revolutions Per Minute .
In a 12" twist barrel , you would have to achieve a muzzle velocity of 5550 FPS in order to achieve 333,000 RPM's .

Now , the Sierra 69gr bullet is definitely stronger construction , as it is achieving 324,000 RPM's .

Formula to determine RPM's is
1 foot ( 12" ) divided by barrel twist ( 8" ) , 12 divided by 8 = 1.5 x 3700 fps = 5550 x 60 (seconds) = 333,000 RPM's.

Use longer , heavier bullets at appropriately lower speeds in your 1:8" twist barrel .

what's your intended use for the load?
