Was given this rifle and would like it gone through. Don't know the caliber. All it has on it is 1865 Springfield on the side and 1870 on the top. Does anyone know someone who works on such weapons? I am in Southern Wisconsin. Would like to hunt with it.

Take it to a Smith that can chamber cast it. These did not shoot higher pressure black powder loads. That is, you need to know which metallic cartridge it was chambered for and the weight of the bullet. If there are any black powder shoots coming up in your area, those people could help you get started this spring.
Good luck!
