185 Juggernaut match. Deer, antelope and sheep worthy?

Let's face it. Some "match" bullets open and expand reliably on medium game and some do not. Does anybody here have any experience with the 185 juggernaut? Which side do you feel they fall on? I think the largest critter I'd be using these on is mature mulie bucks.
Michael,
The only Berger match bullets we have heard were used with success with the most frequency are the .30 cal 215 Hybrid Target and the .30 cal 230 OTM bullets. Due to their thicker jackets the reports have been that they don't fragment, leave a smaller wound channel and in most cases leave an exit wound that has been described as " the size of a golf ball". Broz in the ELK hunting forum has a great string with pictures on his use of the 215 Hybrid target on everything from Elk to Antelope. You will have to dig back away to find it. Have you or IDelkhunter tried our .30 cal 185 grain CLASSIC HUNTER bullets in your rifles ?

Phil,

I have not tried them on game yet, have just been doing load development. However, I have been worried about performance on big game as this gun will primarily hunt deer and elk. I just looked into the 185 Classic's and see they are on clearance at the site I normally buy from. Are they being discontinued? Any other recommendations for a 12 twist in a 300 Jarrett?

Thanks,

Marcus

Marcus,
They are not being discontinued . Try the .30 cal 168 grain CLASSIC HUNTER also and the 155 VLD Hunting bullet has been a very good bullet on deer. Its short enough that you MAY be able to find a seating depth accuracy node and have the round still fit in the magazine. Go to our website and read Eric's "VLDs Making them shoot in TECH TALK under the INFORMATION tab on our home page.

I can chime in on 230 Bergers. They hit like a freight train and do enough damage to cleanly drop em but not blow up absolutely everything. Last one I witnessed was 200 yd double lung. Both lungs gone, heart intact, spine broke from fragmentation and tennis ball sized exit. That was out of a 300wm with a estimated mv of around 2725. Can't wait to test em elk this year.

I'm going the berger route this year also. I have 250 of the 250gr OTM for my lapua and 250 of the 215's to develop in a 300 rum, along with a big batch of the 230's to try in the rum. I killed an elk on the 2014 group hunt with a 285 AMAX out of a 338 Rogue. It performed well, however, the expansion was very rapid. I landed a neck shot at 387yd and the results were "grenade like" The elk never moved from his tracks, but had the shot angle or placement been different I don't know if the results would have been the same. I hope to use the 250 OTM, i'm going with the 250 instead of the 300 for easier seating to mag length and added velocity which gives a bit more room for error in distance judgement, and angle calculation that usually occur in field conditions. I think they'll give me a little bit of an edge in connecting on a shot that has to happen quickly where sometimes small errors in ranging and animal movement after ranging can often be made.
