Hello, New to this forum, first post here. Did a little searching, didnt find what I was after, sorry if this is redundant.

Working up a 6.5 creedmoor long range deer hunting load. Started with 143Eldx, but have only been able to get them down to 3/4 MOA @ 100-200 yards, even after tuning seating depth. Hoping for better. Thinking of trying either the berger 140 elite hunter or the 142 accubond long range. What is the consensus on this forum about accuracy of those bullets, and what are ya'll experiencing with terminal performance of them? This will be used on whitetail out to 600 yard for now but maybe out to 1000 some day. Are there any other high BC options I am missing?
Thanks!

Welcome to the forum!

What powder are you using? I haven't found a 6.5 Creedmoor yet that hasn't been extremely accurate (and fast) with Reloder 16 in the 140-143 grain bullet range. Superformance is another good one to try if you haven't already. Give us the specifics of your load workup (what rifle, brass used, how far off the lands you're seating, etc.) and we may be able to help you fine tune. Any of the bullets you mentioned will be perfectly fine for deer at all reasonable ranges. Your rifle will tell you which it likes best.

Lapua brass, CCI 41 SR primers. H4350. Hoping to stick with that powder for now for its great temp stability (and I still have 7 pounds of it). Using 41.5 grains for 2770 fps. Charge weight didnt seem to affect group size at 200yds by any significant amount. Have tried jumps of .01, .02, .03, .04, .045, .050, .055, .060, .070, .080. Most of those produced about 1 moa @100 yards. .040 to .055 give me about 3/4 moa. Have had a .46 moa 5 shot group at .040 but it didnt hold true when loading up 10 more, back to 3/4 moa.

Thanks for any advice on that. Also to note, my rifle did not shoot the precision hunter 143 ammunition well either, about 1.25 moa. It does shoot berger target ammunition 130gr and 140gr hybrids to sub 1/2 moa at 200 and 400 yards.

Here is my last seating depth test at 100. .040, .045, .050, .055, 10 each.

For deer I'm going to try some Hybrids out of my .260.

If the 215 Hybrids are doing so well out of a 30 cal on elk, why won't the 140 Hybrids work on deer out of a 6.5?

I use the 130 OTM in my daughter's 6.5SLR (22" @ 2900fps), and my other daughter's 6.5CM (22" @ 2820fps). Wicked accurate, and murder on game. Have used them on javalina (120, 135), pronghorn (391), mule deer (150, 454, 582, 637), and squirrel (741). All DRT, dropped like turning off a switch.

The 130 OTM shoots great in this rifle, never thought about trying it for hunting. Does leave a decent size exit hole? That is key to finding deer back around here

I switched over to the 156 EOL in my Creedmoors this year. Have been very easy to work up loads for using H4350 and they have taken a nice 6x6 bull at 500 and a coues at 440 yards with one hit each. Just seat to comfortably fit in the magazine. I am using 41gr of H4350. May be able to get a little more velocity using RL26 but I am getting 2650 from a 22" barrel and am happy with that. I used the 142 ABLR prior to this season with great success. It is just easier to find accurate loads with the new EOL and therefore less work for me

Nice! What twist rate is needed to use the 156?

None of the deer or pronghorn has taken a single step. Seriously. exits were about $.25 to $.50. We have recovered one bullet, a hard quartering away shot. Just under the offside hide. Inside vital damage has been tremendous. I have not weighed it yet, as it is in the cupholder of the truck and I have been way to busy to go grab it.

.05" jump and 41.5-42gr of h4350 should be on the money with the 143. I've had good accuracy with the bullet, but if you've covered the bases, I'd move on. I'd try the 135 Berger classic hunter or the 130-140 eldm. They both perform similar to the 143. Or just use the Berger target bullets. Good luck

I have used all three of those bullets. Berger's tend to be the easiest to work up loads and most accurate.

LRABS are more consistent on there performance on game, harder to work up loads and they tend like .050ish jump.

Edlx have been the hardest to work loads for, some rifles just don't seem to like them.

I wouldn't hesitate to use any of those bullets of a elk hunt. In fact I will be this weekend.
