136gr Terminal Ascent, 145 ELDX or 150 Accubond Long Range are your best options for lead bullets. As far as copper goes, there are dozens of options that vary with your barrel's twist rate.

I've been a fan of the 270 since 1975 and have used all sorts of barrel lengths. Tons of bullets will work out to 500 on whitey's.
In no particular order:
110 TTSX
117 Hammer
130 NBT
130 Sierra BT
140 Berger
140 Sierra HPBT
Easy peasy, not rocket science unless we choose to make it that

For deer, I was a Hornady SST bullet guy. Interbond and Interlock, Nosler Bt are good also, 130 and 140 gr.

N555 works well in my .270 behind a sierra 140 Gr TGK but I have a 24" barrel. For deer size a light weight mono (110gr ttsx) would be good. It will help keep velocity up with the short barrel. If you want heavier the 129lrx would be great as well. Higher bc and softer construction will open up at the lower velocity you will get from the shorter barrel. The Lrx is probably my choice between the 2 I listed

I'm shooting a 128 mcguire copper rose in a 19.5" 270 sherman short at 3120 fps. It's dumped a couple cow elk and few deer. You should get better speed with the winchester as i think it has more capacity than the shortened saum.

I would suggest the 150g ABLR, it works extremely well at lower velocities.
I do not know of another bullet capable of expanding as low as 1300fps reliably.

I've played with ablr couple times. I can't ever get them to shoot consistently

Why? What does consistently mean for you? Do they hit where you aim with them?
I have zero problems with them.
I don't shoot groups at animals, there's no point, after the first shot, they are normally dead.
