160 gr Nosler Accubond in 7STW has never failed at 3150 fps. 300 to 500 yards is typical.
Best elk bullet of all time. What say you?

Most elk killed in my family of 4 was with Nosler partitions. Next was a Nosler Accubond

Most 270 rifles have a slow twist rate. The Berger load manual has a good list. The slow twist is what limited the 270 to 150 gr bullets.

In judging from all of the endorsements for the Partition……it certainly appears that the Germans were on to sump'n when they introduced the H-Mantle bullet - years before the Partition!

Hey there Huckleberry- I do love the 30-06, but this Hornady 180 IL was going 2910 from the Light Magnum ammo I had. First shot broker her spine ( running shot at 135 steps, almost missed her!) the bullet had wadded up in the vertebrae. A finishing double lung shot went through the first lung ( not a real big permanent wound cavity) then blew up like a shotgun #8" through the second lung and stopped in the rib wall. It just kinda-sorta bummed me out that one time. I like Hornadys, normally a very tough bullet, but yes, I got my cow. The following few months later Federal had the High Energy loads with 180 Partitons ( they went 2970 from my 23" Douglas barrel.) they were exceptional loads/bullets! So no flies on the old '06 nor really the Hornady, it was just that one time that "spooked me", lol I have since shot big hogs with the 200 NPT in the '06 and that is a Giant Killer!

Yeah, this is a pretty open question, it'd be better IMO if it were phrased "what is your favorite bullet for X caliber out to 6-800 yds for Elk?... or something like that. I have a custom built 6.8 western I shoot either 165 gr ABLR or 175 gr Sierra Tipped Game King. 1:8 twist, 2950 fps--like a 270 WSM on steroids and it lays them down. I also like Barnes TTSX bullets but have never warmed up to Berger. A lot of guys on here swear by Bergers so to each his own...but I don't know about all that explosive bullet business--I'm like hmmm, I don't know Billy Ray...I also shoot a 6.5 PRC and I never feel like I'm not dressed for the party with my old school 30-06 w 165 gr STGK or 7 RM w 160 gr trophy bonded bullets. I have a .300 Wby Mag w 180 gr Barnes TTSX (3200 fps) that really will do the job on big animals at range, but that sucker is heavy. My 6.8 is lightweight and 22" barrel is very handy and very deadly so I'm kind of loving my "pocket rifle" these days
. I don't have any kills past 550 yds so there is that. I remember "back in the day" before range finders, user friendly cronies and drop in selectable turrets, that 300 yds was stepping out there with fixed turrets scope zeroed at 200 yds--a standard back then to hit about a 285 yd point blank range. So, being and old guy I'm still calling 500 yds a long-range shot. While I can make that shot and I love ringing steel at 1000, I'll gladly take a 60 yd shot over 500+ any day.

I can say with certainty that we get far more reports of greater than expected results on elk from hunters using the 30 cal 215 grin Hybrid Target than all other bullets we make combined. We also get many requests to build a hunting specific version of this bullet, so I have designed a 217 grain Elite Hunter that uses the same profile and shoots the same. They are in production now and should be shipping very soon. It is my hopes this will become the bullet that the majority agree is the best elk bullet, especially at extended range.

When I first started hunting elk there weren't laser rangefinder or plastic tip bullets heck a 3-9 scope was a big deal. And I'm 50. But technology has changed drastically in the past decade. Back in the 90s and early 2000's 400 yds was a long shot, 500 was considered sniper class shooting. We've killed a ton of elk since then. Gotta give the best elk bullet award to the Nosler partition. No matter a 120 grain from a 25-06, 150, 160 from 270 or 7 mag to the 180 in the 300 win the partition killed elk near or far with little trouble. We're still killing a handful of elk every fall, a lot with Nosler Accubonds and Berger Classic or Elite Hunters. King of the hill...Nosler Partition.

Have use Hornady Interbonds for over 20 years, 165 gr. in 308 and 30-06,180gr. in 300 Win and 300 Wby and 200 gr. in 340 Wby. They have worked well on pigs, mule and whitetail deer, elk, bear and moose. Have reloaded alot of bullets over the last 50 years. Liked the Accubonds but they were 2x the cost and did not see where they shot or performed better. They were $25 per 100 and have enough to last my lifetime.

Agreed! No flies on the Nosler ABLR either.
