I have a .270 barrel I got off a forum and was going to use. I think, judging from the bore pics that it is toast. Pics are after 4 hours of cleaning and an overnite soaking (filled the barrel w/solution) with Wipeout/Patchout. Not concerned about the remaining copper as that's just more work. The remainder is my concern. Is it fire cracking, corrosion? And the perpendicular rings? New to me!
So, what say you, my more experienced technicians? What do you see? Thanks for your reconnaissance.

How far down the barrel does it look like that....could set it back a bit....try for better surface metal...
I had about 600rds thru a cf proof..set it back a 3/8"....shot good....eventually I had the muzzle cut off.....from 26" to 22"
.....threaded..built a new thread cap...
shoots better now.....
Probably 800rds thru it now....

What appears to me as fire cracking goes 1/3 of the way down the barrel so it wouldn't help to set it back. Heavily coppered for 3" or so, midway down the barrel and then pretty clean and smooth to the muzzle.

Get some of those 'finishing bullets'....
Might be just the ticket for your barrel...
Least ways a good experiment......
I have loaded for and ready to test those bullets in a couple other rifles for bore smoothing after reboring. I'm curious to see how well they work in that case. Probably won't clean up this rifle's fire cracking but may serve to polish it up regardless. Thanks for the reminder!

Anyone have any ideas on the perpendicular circular marks? There's a bunch of them throughout the barrel length.

Before and after pics......
Maybe I coukd have used my other silent noodle a little longer......but the firecrack were deep into the barrel....not long down the barrel.....

I would think those 'rings' throughout the pics had to be from factory barreling....if it had been shot alot I would think they would be worn down more.....
