I speak partially out of jest. I know what the down side is and no, I'm not advocating anyone uses poison as it is illegal. I'll leave that there and not derail the thread.
To the OP. Flat shooting is the name of the game for wolves. They're extremely cagey and very difficult to call. So the distances can be on the high side. Every time I've seen a wolf they have their after burners wide open to get away from me leaving no shot.
With all that being said, if I were to choose a rifle specifically for wolf hunting, I'd go with something that would terminally be effective at the 1000 yard mark. I'm a .30 cal guy so 300 WM, 300 PRC, 300 WSM…maybe even a .308 (although this would cut my effective distance).
If you want to keep the hide, then a frangable bullet like a Berger would be a great choice. Me personally, I'd use my big game hunting loads. If I blew a hole in the backside of the animal, I'd have the taxidermist leave the hole in the hide.

Last summer I picked up (heaven forbid on a LR Hunting site) an AR10 in .243 Win and topped it with an Arken 4-16 44mm FFP. I bought it with the idea to use it as a coyote buster.
I wonder if I was being stalked/approached by some larger canine-type predator that my humble .243 would be able to save me from something as terrifying as that?

I was tossing around the idea of a fast 6 mm shooting the 112 match burner. With its .624 bc it would be a good long range bullet. From the little research I've done it seem like a pretty explosive bullet.
Maybe just the plain Jane 6 creed? Should get close to 3100 out of a 26" barrel I would think. Other considerations were a 243 ackley or a 6/284 but not sure how much speed that bullet will handle

The 6 creed is a good choice. There's lots of good brass available. You should be able to get 3100-fps with a 26" barrel. I've been shooting the 110 a tips out of a 6 creed at coyotes this year and they have been hammering them! They have a .604 bc I think, I'm getting 3025fps out of my 24" barrel. I'm not pushing them hard and the barrel hasn't sped up yet.

The downstream effect of wolves on the other critters is profound here.
Public relations-showing videos of screaming animals being eaten alive, calves being ripped from bellies, and the number of sport reflex kills. That wouldn't hurt anything other than feelings, but heaven forbid we do that.

I still believe in sharing the wealth of the wildlife beauty of wolves. Capture, release eastern slopes of CO. Not fair they cannot share in the "bounty". Prob get there on their own anyway since it is absolutely ludicrous to think they stay put.

Hmmm. Strangely, the "bounty" comes all too frequently from Ranchers and the "difficult to quantify" negative impact canis lupus has on the remaining herd... I'm not a Rancher, but even in my home state (Northern MI), 'yotes are having a huge negative effect on herds compared to the previous era of lower 'yote populations (e.g., lower birth rates, lower marketable weights, etc). Canis lupus will only magnify that problem. Since I don't make my living from Ranching, it's not right that I (or anyone else) can vote to increase the predator population without personally experiencing any ramifications of the decision.

One near the top of my list is an AR15 in 6 ARC for coyotes and wolves. I would think having a fast backup shot would be a good advantage to have when the pack makes itself available.

I've got a prc already and is actually my smallest gun at the moment, I'll probably use that in the mean time. I guess my mine worry is not wanting to blow up the hose so I'm leaning toward smaller caliber with frangible bullets.
