Best rangefinder for elr

The Terrapin is a piece of junk, it's awesome till it craps out which many did and then the quote to repair was as much as a new one for parts and labor, then they were not making enough money in this market so they dropped it to focus on making more money from the military, seems now it's good enough money to get back into it. I can't think of anyone I know of who didn't have an issue with it eventually, some were able to repair it themselves as some of it was a soldering issue. It's a very good piece when it's working but frankly if I'm shooting beyond the Leica I'm perfectly happy with GPS ranges.

IMO, best bang for the buck: Sig 2400. Small, accurate with smaller beam divergence than others in price range. Two years ago - selling for $1,250 new. Not sure of price now.

I like my g7 br2. Ranges to 2000 on range only.

I've got one of these. Ranged a cow at over 1500 yards and steel to well over a mile.

I'm running the 1mile ARC. I Love it.

The only issue I had with my Terrapin was the 5x optic. It was clear, but still...only 5x. Should be at lest 10X to be usefull out at extended ranges. I, too, could range in excess of 4800 yards with very good repeatability.

To the OP:

To my mind, how far a rangefinder can range is way down on my priority list. Most rangefinders can range farther than we can shoot when conditions are optimal. If you are like me, the trophy buck/bull always seems to present itself when conditions are far less than ideal. Some things to keep in mind:

Can the rangefinder still function and give reliable results at shootable distances when there is rain or mist in the air?

Does it have a smaller-than-normal beam divergence to lessen the chance of picking up an errant, unintended target that is in your line of sight.

How does it perform in flat terrain where sagebrush covers over half the deer/antelope you want to shoot? (Most will give you a false reading).

Does it carry well? Fit in a pocket or easily stowed when not in use?

Does it have a good warranty and customer service?

I think you will find that these items will carry greater weight in the long run than how far they can range.

I just bought the SigKilo 2400 ABS Rangefinder for $1300.00 from this site, LRH. It is AWESOME! Does EVERYTHING I NEED OUT to 2 Miles! If you already have the SIG2000 you're aware of how fine a jewel it is. The SigKilo2400ABS is its DADDY! ENUFF said!

Did Sig cure there guality issues??? There 2000 and 2200 units are junk!!! Not going to try any more sig products and chance having to just send it back for warranty !!!

I've only had it a month. So far I'm very PLEASED! Yes the QUALITY is up to snuff. My previous one was a LEICA and I like the SIGKO2400 ABS way, way better. Just my 2 cents.

I've had my SIG 2400 for nearly two years now. No problems and drop calculations are spot on.

My kilo 2000 sure was buggy. Had to send it back for replacement

I have the sig 2000 as well. Started looking last Memorial Day for something else after it would not range coyotes past 500 yards in a no till wheat field. Ended up finding the Leica hdb 2200's on sale, after loading my custom ballistic curve and taking game from 100-530 this fall/winter very happy I made the switch. Ranged trees and rock face in full sun to 2250, deer to 1400 and elk to 1930. Deer were in full sun. I could not range a white ipsca target in full sun at 1550, but could hit green grass patch next to it and trees at 1900 past it. In rainy fog would range the full 150 yards that I would shoot on a 4" wood fence post, haven't had the opportunity to range further in adverse conditions. Very pleased to combine two tools and upgrade from my sig and leupold binos at the same time. Still have them as backups or for my son to use.

My limited experience from being in a somewhat similar boat about a year ago. No regrets.
