Saving for a new "factory" higher end rifle. What do you recommend?

If you like tikka get one.... throw it in a bell and Carlson stock. Good to go.

The Weatherby Vanguard wilderness I have shoots excellent, essentially comes standard with a bell and Carlson stock. 6-3/4 lbs w/fluted barrel.

I had a couple x-bolts and they all shot well.... probably most consistent factory rifles I've had. Stock was too slim for my liking.

Hard to go wrong these days, pick the one that fits you and your budget best!

Find a new or used Newhaven built Model 70 classic sporter or classic stainless then and don't look back.

That particular model though is amazing. I have one in .260 that consistently shoots Prime Factory ammo in the .3's.
 
I would go with a CA, Browning or Bergara at this time for that price range. No particular order, just depends on what features you like.

so save your money a little longer, a cooper laminate sporter can be had for 1800 with a half minute guarantee and will last forever in a 308. No worries
 
My absolute favorite is a cooper 54. If you are willing to wait you can get it somewhat. Customized to your specs. And they have Many variations making it almost semi custom. If you can't wait several online store stock them. Marks in Birmingham Sometime haS Them used My second fav is a sako Finnlite. While it's accuracy guarantee is 1 Moa and the cooper is .5 they are great shooters. And the sako can be as much as 1k less (Both of mine beat the guarantees). Be warned though the finnlite bites a bit in the heavy calibers.
 
Like mentioned the Tika T-3 with perhaps a aftermarket stock. The CA Mesa or Ridgeline are getting good reviews. Should easily be capable of under 3/4 inch at 100. The other to perhaps look at is the Seekins Havak. Over on the Hide they seem to like them pretty well right now. Not sure of heir weight tho....

Brownells is selling Howa barreled actions for a good price, both the standard barrel and the heavy barrel.

I bought a heavy barreled action, 24", 308 Win, and ordered a good stock to go with it.

Gave it to my grandson and he is enjoying it thoroughly. My SIL & I coached him through the assembly, including the scope setup.

His first attempt at a 5 shot group got him 1 1/4" @ 100 yds. That was with less than 20 rounds thru the barrel. Not bad for a novice at least to me.

I own a Christensen Ridgeline .270 that is extremely accurate. I shoot handloads and achieved 1/4" MOA at 200 yards last weekend from benchrest and no wind. I have added a custom wood stock because I enjoy the feel of wood. I have shot 445 rounds so far. Good luck with your choice.
 
Buy a Savage 308 for the donor action and build one.

Top picture is a Savage 308 donor action and now is a 6.5 Creedmoor. My first attempt, works fine

Bottom picture is another Savage donor action. 6.5x284 with better parts.

Both are capable of shooting 1000 yards.

I just picked up a tikka t3x superlite and put a vortex 3-15 razor lh on it for less then you budget, you would still have money left over to buy a stock that you like.
