Anyone shooting a Rem 700 long range

I'd like to get one, true it up, bed the action, and rebarrel or re-chamber it to something more off-the-wall or wildcat for some LR fun. It would be a fairly inexpensive platform to build off of, since it already comes with a 26" heavy barrel and a B&C Medalist M40 stock.

I bought one in 25-06 and just picked up a nice Nikon Monarch 3 for it yesterday.
Hopefully I'll hit the range with it Sunday. Real nice rifle and stock. It was barely more for this rifle than the regular Varmint model with the plastic Remington stock on it.

Let us know how it shoots.
You should take it to the smith and have him true the action, open that chamber to .25-06 AI, set the headspacing to .002", hand-lap the bore for virtually no break-in, and bed the action. Then you'll have a custom rifle for couple-hundred bucks more.
I just put together this rifle ( rem 700 )after much research a lot of which i did on the forum.

In any case it's proving super accurate and I'm loving having a use for all my .270 brass!!
140 Amax - ADI 2217 - federal primers for a MV of 3150 fps.
Here's just a quick clip of a goat taken this evening with it !!

I like the hunting truck with no windshield. Better not tell the rednecks around here, everyone will be doing it. LOL Especially not the ARHA (Alabama Road Hunters Association).
BTW, it's illegal in Alabama to take game within 50 feet of a main road, and from a vehicle. Kind of a stupid law, but if you're on your own land, who cares. LOL

Has anyone tried their new 700 LR with the m40 stock out of the box. Curious how they shoot. I'm interested in the 300 RUM. Looks like the bull barrel adds the weight that the light stock looses, so you don't get hammered when it shoots. IF I don't go the 300 RUM then I want a tikka t3 in 7 mm mag. Only reason I am leaning towards the 300 rum is that I have a 6.5 x 284 norma already. That and the bumm stock on the t-3.

Why wouldn't you get the 700 Long Range in 7mm RemMag? They offer them in that caliber. As well as .25-06, .30-06, .300 RUM, and .300 WinMag.
I am looking for something to play with past 1000 yds and I am not sure if I want the lapua or not.

7mm RM will more than reach out to 1K. And if you buy it and it doesn't have enough umph for you, you could always punch the chamber out to 7mm STW. I have a load for mine right now pushing Berger 180 Hybrids @ 3,000 fps, and stacking 1/2" 5-shot groups. It will DEFINITELY be able to play past 1,000 yards.

I have two 7mm's right now the one shoots really good. And the other one is off getting hacked to 7-300 and a brake. I really like the higher cheek piece on that stock.

7mm RemMag will be an excellent addition, but if you are wanting a serious LR hammer (750-1500+) the 7mm STW will be your best bet.
I looked at that model and ended up going with the Rem 700 R5 Mil spec in 300 WM. I bought this as a heavier caliber mate to my 6.5x284 for ELR. After having owned a few of these in 308 over the years due to the bench rest level accuracy, the 300WM was no exception delivering exceptional accuracy with sub .5MOA performance at 1000 yards, and i am able to consistently hit soccer ball sized rocks at 1500 yards. I use 210 Berger VLD's at 2900FPS. This was out of the box, with only a trigger replacement. Had a good first season with it shooting two antelope bucks and 1 buck between 600 and 1000 yards.
