What is it with Weatherby's...?

The other day Im doing some online shopping and I happed to click on Weatherby ammo. Talk about a shocker..!! Then I made the mistake of just going thru Weatherby empty brass!!!

This stuff made from gold or what? Why should an empty weatherby casing costs 2 times as much as say a Winchester or Remmie??
It almost wants a guy to stay out of Weatherby rifles and ammo..!!

+1 Last weekend they had Nosler Custom 257 Weatherby w/ 110 Accubonds for $32 a box. Made me wish I still had one!

Just like any other business that has a particular market cornered, they have a price that's commensurate with that cornered market. They were always the "biggest" and "baddest" and fastest with a good looking rifle to boot. The problem with weatherby is no one has ever told them that they don't have the market cornered any longer. The guys with the $$ are still buying their stuff.

For years you could only get Weatherby brass from Weatherby or buy Weatherby ammo and shoot it and reload the brass then other Brass manufactures started making brass in Weatherby calibers. I guess Weatherby figured if you could afford there rifles you could afford there ammo and brass. Hope this helps.

Design a line of unique high performance cartridges and rifles, then go get decent quality brass made and bring it to market you'll likely have your answer. Getting cases made for a cartridge that is out of the norm with shoulder angles can have a high cull rate which can double your case cost easily!!

I was a Weatherby fan boy until I started reloading and figured out you can get to their level with a lot less. These overbore cartridges were developed long before turrets and BDC reticles became the norm. Now, I could care less about a 100 fps advantage because I can compensate with my optic. Accuracy is everything.

Weatherby's brass is made by Norma and it has always been some of the highest price brass available.

If you want High priced brass buy some 338 Excalibur or 408 CheyTac .

I have several Weatherby's and hate the cost of there brass but it is what it is if you want to shoot
Weatherby chambering's.

Bought a pile of Weatherby ammo from a sports shop going out of business for 70% off. Used it for barrel break-in and reloaded afterwards. Still have some unused left for use in the future. Maybe I'll try that vendor for more brass, but I won't tell anyone!

I have no problem with it, though Nosler is going to make some of us Weatherby shooters happy if they keep selling Norma sourced brass at great prices.

Winchester, Remington, Federal, etc - in my experience the rate of scrappage for uneven neck thickness and other issues is a fair amount higher than Weatherby brass. And, I don't have to spend time reaming out the primer holes, which can take quite a while with less expensive brass. Sometimes having quality brass is worth the difference in price when your time to prep them is considered in the equation.

The only one that shocks me is the cost of 30-378 or 338-378 brass. I don't need any, and I'm quite happy not having to buy those. Ouch.
