Starting the same thing with my savage,but using imr 7828ssc and the 140gr sst We will have to see which one get the best result.The starting point is 45grs.good luck

I just did one with H-1000 and 140 Bergers. Started on the lands at 50 gr and worked up to 55 gr where I saw pressure. Ended up at 52 gr. This was in Lapua brass and with Fed GM 210M primers.

I run mine with 53.5 h1000 with excellent results I also seen pressure at 55.
Using Lapua brass fed 210m, 140 berger hybrid @ 2975 fps.

That is smoking! This cooper only has a 24" tube and at 52 gr on the lands I am at 2720 across the Magneto speed. The drops work out to 900 spot on with advertised BC too.

Hey broz you might want to try h4831sc is have to look it up but I was running I believe either 50.5 or 51.5 of powder with Norma cases and fed 215 with a 140 Amax and was right in the low 29??fps I'd have to call the guy I sold it to to get exact recipe. But with that being said it could of been a fluke gun and powder lots can differ somewhat so if you do try 4831 start at whatever the book tells you to wich I believe is max at 47grs.

I am using 28 inch shilen. crony told me 2989 but to match drops out to 1375 I have to run 2975 using bergers g7 BC.

I haven't tried H1000 in mine yet but do plan on it. This powder is absolutely lazer accurate in my .300WinMag with the 190gn SMK.
About three weeks ago I tried the 140gn A-Max's with Retumbo and BR2's. The last load I tried in my 12BVSS/VLP (59.0gn) stacked them on top of each other and in to one little hole. My shooting buddies were pretty impressed with the accuracy of this rifle/load.
Tomorrow I plan to chronograph that A-Max load, work up a drop chart and wear their asses out at 700yds on Sunday. I'm also going to try some 140gn SMK's, ahead of 51.5 to 53.0gns of RL22 and BR2's, and see what kind of accuracy/velocity they produce.
I'll post results when done. JohnnyK.

I have worked quite a lot with H4831SC, H1000, and Retumbo in my 6.5x284's. In a few different rifles with 24-26" barrels with 1:8 twist, H4831SC and H1000 produce very good accuracy but high pressure will start to show up around 2925-2950. In all these rifles Retumbo has produced the highest velocity, 50-75FPS faster, with no pressure signs, very low ES, and superb accuracy. Contrary to some postings, I have found 24-26" barrels to handle Retumbo perfectly. I have also found Federal 210's will produce approximately 50FPS lower velocity than Federal 215's when using Retumbo. I like H4831SC with210's for target shooting(2940FPS) Retumbo with Federal 215's for hunting(2970FPS). Bullets either 140 Berger VLD's or 142 JLK's.

Screech, Thanks for the suggestion. I too agree there are better choices for burn rates than H-1000 for this chambering. H-4831 was the one I wanted to try. But my friend that owns this rifle was hoping to use H-1000 as he also has a 300 win and wants to use the same powder if possible. So we are giving up a little velocity for convenience.
If it were mine I would change it. This rifle would benefit from some velocity. The wind blows these little bullets around something fierce. Really fails badly at 1000 compared to my 300 win and a 215 Berger. Not to mention the bullet splashes off the rocks look like a mouse phart.

I havn't tried retumbo yet, but so far in my new build, H4350 has produced slightly higher velocities than H1000 and H4831( not the short cut). It's also showing a lower ES than the two. Im still breaking in the barrel so none of them are off the table yet.

Wow guys. I'm the exact opposite. I'm loving h1000 right now with the 140vld. I'm at 56.0, 2925'sec with MUCH easier extraction than h4831sc. It does not crater my primers nor leave any ejector marks. I'm not seeing pressure till I'm past 57.0 grains. I thought 4831 was the **** but I'm rethinking it. I'm .001-.002" off the lands. I forget my coal but my boat tail bearing surface junction is right at the neck/shoulder junction. Accuracy is incredible. Then again, it was incredible with 4831sc too. Just with pressure signs often and a seemingly half empty case.
I just made a load up for a friends savage lrh. 56gr h1000 oal at 3.17". 2 groups at 200 under an inch. My prochrono said 2810fps 20ft from muzzle. But its not very accurate. Gotta work out the drops to verify velocity.
Got a slight ejector mark at 57.5. But a ladder at 525 showed that 55.5 and 56 were 2" apart and no vertical difference

My daughter shoots 56 grains of H1000 behind a 140 AMAX seated out to 3.090" for 2900 fps in a 26" Lilja barrel. This load worked very well in Colorado, but we're seeing some pressure signs (slowly loosening primer pockets) having moved to lower (near sea level) altitudes. It's a subtle effect, but there's more air to push out of the barrel at sea level.
