I recently bought a new 338RUM that my dad and I have been shooting and started loading some 300gr bergers for. My issue is that when we set the bullet correctly to the lands it is too long to feed into the magazine and even the action, I am having to load them one at a time. The gun is stock with no mods, I would like to be able to make these bullets feed correctly what are my options?
Rifle: Rem 700 BDL 338RUM LH

Thanks for the help

I would assume that you will need to modify the feed lips on the mag box and possibly the ramp on the front of the action. This is to get them started into the chamber correctly. The longer tip forward the bearing surface of the bullet seems to look for places to hang up. Once you get the adjustments made so the bullet is pointed in the correct direction you should be good to go. If you are not familar with doing this, I recommend you take the rifle and a few dummy rounds to a smith.

Experiment with seating your bullets deeper. Set your target up at 200 and 300 yrds to know for sure. You may find that you can seat them .050" to .100" deep and get good results. This will then allow you to use your mag.

I install the Wyatt extended mag box what is your over all length of a loaded round?

I want to add that the box length was just one of the issues with mine when I switched to the Bergers. They still needed box mods and feed ramp tuning to get the long tip on track.

Extracting a loaded round is also a problem he stated.

My action is single shot so no problems feeding.

I've been thinking of taking about 10 thou off of the bolt stop. But so far I haven't had to unload a loaded round.

Yes that is also an issue, but I can pull the bolt out a little too when needed, although it would be nice to have it work properly.

We have just started playing with this gun and bullet so maybe we can seat them deeper and still get good accuracy. It seems that there is a deep chamber before getting the bullts to the lands.

Seating bullets on or into the lands is VERY overrated. Especially in a hunting rifle. Seating depth for the Berger 300 grainers or any other 300 grainer for that matter in 338 RUMs and EDGEs doesnt seem to matter much if any at all. These cases are not finicky with 300 grain pills. Seat them to fit, then test. you may be supprised.
