Found Primers but are they too much $$$

Already know how that would work out. They have more rights than I do. The lawyers would be circling and lawsuits would be forthcoming.
Does that include contacting them with no physical contact involved? Do you even have the right to ask them to show you a receipt even after they have left the store? I see squad cars at my local WalMart frequently so they must be stopping some shoplifters.

Truth is dozens of states fall under the do nothing with shoplifting. I would love to be present if someone tried to shoplift at any of our LGS. The clientele would not just stand around, watch, do nothing, and with their phone ou

It irritates me too. I do recall some very sage advice by one of the instructors when I took a CCW course- "you better decide upfront who you're willing to go to jail for".

No wiser words said with regards to taking the law into your hands.

In my original post I was referring to tougher laws. Not me administering punishment. I can handle myself fine but I know to many good guys that have gone to jail. I know better than to do what I would like to do to them. But, there needs to be legal consequences and those need to be more severe On the bad guys.
I'm too cripple to fight. But I won't hesitate to shoot if my life is threatened.
I have pulled my pistol twice, both times that diffused the situation. I was left with no alternative. But I did not have to shoot. Thank goodness.

How does one strike a balance between legitimate self defense and indiscriminate shooting? Even cops don't always get it right, but they have the badge to help them, but that doesn't always help them.
Your life or The life of an innocent victim has to be in imminent danger. You may only shoot until that threat is removed. No coup de grace shots. Cops have a larger dilemma where they are required to de escalate. Citizens. May depend on each state as some have duty to retreat laws. But in my state if you are in legitimate fear for your life you may shoot to stop the threat. Then there is the castle doctrine. You break into my home, I can shoot you in my state. My attitude is that going to the gun is a last ditch effort to save my life or the life of an innocent victim. You are covered by the Samaritan laws when protecting a helpless or innocent victim.
