26" 7mm Rem mag
Vs
22" 7mm Prc
The same animal but different, thoughts? Should i have tore down the Rem mag and turned it into the 7mm PRC and kept the 300 PRC barrel on? The 7mm Rem mag is a police model that was made for only two years and shoots alright. I havent been able to shoot the 7 Prc yet Which would you take hunting ? 162gr eldx in the Rem mag and 175gr eldx in the 7mm PRC

Honesty they'll both work great. Not even sure if you'd be able to tell trh difference. The critter sure a heck won't. Probably close to identical. I run a 24" 7RM and 180gn Hybrids @ 2960.

Based on what you have there, I'd probably go with the 7PRC based solely on the 22" barrel and being easier to wield / carry on a hunt.

hang on to the 7RM for something to shoot, you might not be able to get brass for the PRC for another 8-12 months from what I hear. Sell the 7rm once you get brass.

That the whole reason I decided to stick with the RM. Was deciding between the 2 on this build. Ended up going RM cause I saw how unobtainium the 300PRC stuff was for awhile after it came out. Had a few buddies with brand new 300PRC's that couldn't even shoot them due to not being able to find ammo or brass.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I will keep the 7mm rem mag as a backup rifle, i have about 60 pieces of Peterson brass. I bought 100 rounds of 7mm PRC to use and reload. Hopefully i can get a few aoudad this spring with both if the wife like my 7 PRC

I just sent off an action to have a Proof .284 barrel installed, and had to decide if I wanted it chambered in 7mm Rem Mag or 7 PRC. It is a hunting rig so I ultimately decided to go with the 7mm Rem Mag. Knowing that if I go out of state and forget or lose ammo there is at least have a chance of finding some on the local shelves was really the deciding factor. I reload so ammo availability shouldn't be an issue, but I don't want to get to Wyoming or Alaska just to realize my reloads are sitting on the counter and I can't find anything local.

The biggest reason I would choose the 7 PRC would be to lose the belt on the brass so I wouldn't have to worry about adequate resizing, but I don't shoot thousands of rounds through this rig so I don't mind buying new brass every once in a while.

And then you get to the topic know one truly knows is with good brass ADG or Peterson do you go with saami or spec out a reamer. And then the other question that searches can't answer on the 7prc is do you go .004 over saami base diameter or .005 to deal with possible clicker? To add some state that base diameter over .004 can stretch the bases and subsequently the primer pockets after even one max or near max load? I'm just waiting for Peterson coming out with brass in the next 4/6 months hopefully by then I can make an informed decision on a saami chamber or custom.

I believe that Alex Wheeler has his on speced reamer for the 7PRC, the same as his speced 6.5PRC reamer. He has been building 7PRC rifles according to what I've read. That would be the place I'd look but without quality brass available it's hard to figure out exactly what's needed to avoid the clickers.

I've got Hornady brass on backorder for 4-5 months and it doesn't look like anything will be released any time soon.

I'd pick the one with the KRG stock! Those stocks fit me so well. I think they're a tremendous value.

Now if we're just talking chambering, I'd have to stick with the 7mag for now. The PRC is a better design in every way on paper. For hunting purposes though, the 7mag will be just as effective, with easier to find brass/ammo. A few years from now, that will probably (hopefully) change.

7 REM MAG. BELTS MEAN LITERALLY NOTHING ESPECIALLY FOR A HUNTING RIG. Better performance also with 7RM. I don't get the PRC 7 anyways. We have 708, 280, 280AI, 7x57, what does it do that they don't. Maybe it's the action type. but performance wise it's covered on both sides of the prc. Different I guess.
I love 7 anything so heck why not it just do anything for ME..

How many of those cartridges you listed have readily available components and ammo on the shelves? That why the 7PRC is here. When was the last time you saw factory 7RM ammo with 175-180 class bullets? Never. And it runs those 175-180 class bullets in the 2900's.
When was the last time you saw a gun manufacturer put out a 7RM with a 1:8T to run those heavier bullets? Hornady put out the 7PRC as an answer to the performance guys try to get in their 7RM but can't with out barrel swaps etc, and even then, high 2900's with 180 CL bullets is at the top end of the spectrum. The PRC is getting it with factory ammo.

My 7RM with +P chamber needs to run 4 gns over book max with 4831 to get into the mid-2900's with 180's.

I love my 7RM and will Probably stay with it on my next barrel but the 7PRC most definetly out runs it in performance and factory support for what guys are looking for today with the heavier high BC bullets.

It's has a place.

Belted magnums headspace off the belt, which isn't an issue by itself. Depending on your chamber and reloading dies there is the potential for inadequate resizing just forward of the belt, which can lead to chambering or head spacing issues. There are products available to address this issue but they add complexity and/or cost to the reloading process.

While I agree that the presence of the belt and possible related issues are insignificant to most, I would disagree that "BELTS MEAN LITERALLY NOTHING…"

My personal experience has been that I can get a couple of years from a batch of brass before I start noticing any issues. That is more than sufficient for my personal needs with a hunting rig.

As for the 7 PRC, I believe the biggest difference is that it is designed for heavier bullets with a little more efficiency.
