If you're going to jump off the cliff into reloading I would reccomend reading this book. I got it when I first started and it really helped. There's a ton of info and it explains alot of stuff you wouldn't think of and lots of pics and diagrams to make it easier to understand.

Welcome to the world of justification to your wife, maybe you can convince her that although you have arguably the most versatile and succesful cartridge in exsistence (30/06), elk and deer would laugh at you and you'd never get invited to hunting camp without a PRC/WSM. My recommendations would be to decide what your intended quarry is and at what range you feel is reasonable to you. A 7PRC wouldn't be a bad way to go as at some point brass will be available and by the looks of it will be a great all-around cartridge. Start scanning for suitable powders and primers (tough part) and stock up when possible, the firearms/reloading equipment will be more available than the components. Get a quality reloading manual and read up. Welcome to LRH.

Some say buy the best to start out with so you dont have to upgrade later. I say buy what you can afford at this time so you have peace of mind with yourself and your wife. Because she will share in your ups and downs. take her to the gun range let her shoot some of your reloads and when she hits bullzi praise her pat her on the back and you both will have a happy future. And keep reloading and slowly up grade.

First off I'd like to say thank you for having me, so far I've enjoyed the content. But I can't continue without bringing up the elephant in the room though. You all knew this was a trap and no one said anything. Now I obsess every minute of everyday. Now I'm looking to sell a few guns I don't use anymore, my chainsaw and more so I can afford to purchase a better rifle for long range hunting. I currently have a x bolt 30 06 and a cheapo savage axis 6.5cm. Looking at the internet for 7prc every few minutes. Should I go with 6.8 western? 300wm? PRC? 7RM? WSM? 28 Nosler? Who'd have thought it would be so stressful.

Don't stress, just go with the one you need for long range shooting or hunting. What is it for, I have a Bergara, 6.5 PRC, shoots lights out, at 200yds, is shoots .500 to .750 " groups,, and will kill any north American animal we have , the B-14 has very little reccoil and is flawless, and I have many weapons from 308., 7x08mm, and many others, I've never been happier with the Bergara, and what it delivers , My partner and friend both have the 6.5 Creedmoor as I also do, and they all shoot .500 at 100 factory ammo. Hornady, 143 ELD-X I do reload and find everything I need easy. maybe not power and primers but not like years ago.

There's nothing wrong with the X bolt from what I've heard. The '06 is plenty capable. You start buying factory rifles you never know how good they'll be unless semi-custom.

Then you spend all your money on a new rifle, and scrimp on reloading stuff.

Find brass, primers, and powder before you buy the reloading stuff though.

I like the x bolt it shoots very nice with the 175gr Federal Terminal Ascent. My scope is decent with exposed turrets. The main reason for looking at something like the 7 prc is for more energy down range than the 06 offers. For elk and deer

Welcome! You have arrived at the rabbit hole. It's endless. Read a lot here and learn, maybe you save some money. it's all depend where you want to go. The rest is where you want to go.
Ask question, and you'll get all kind of answers. Some good some bad. You'll have to sort thur that.
I have been reloading for over 60 year now. It doesn't mean I any great reloader. I have bone up a lot over the last couple of years here. It has change my way of thinking on some item or steps in reloading, I do now. Equipment is where deep pocket come in. It's your stopping points.
First Thing.
I would go to FL bushing dies to start with. You can set neck tension almost out the door. You have to purchase bushing for the dies. That's an an added costs. So far I haven't to use mandrels to adjust neck tension. I have them, but haven't had to use them so far.
Go to ebay and look for items you want or might need. There can be some saving there. Learn what list prices are and base from there.
